Yusuf Islam Visits Darfur

Saturday 11 June, 2005, while fragile talks were commencing in Nigeria for the resolution of the Darfur conflict, Yusuf Islam, Small Kindness chairman, together with his wife and son visited the area to assess the situation on the ground amongst the estimated 2 million displaced people of the region.

On the invitation of the Governor of Khartoum, Abdul Haleem Mutraafi, Yusuf spent six days evaluating the situation in Sudan during which he visited various humanitarian projects and laid foundation stones for the establishment of three new purpose built villages in the northern suburbs of the city for displaced victims fleeing the war in the South of the country.

During their stay in the capital, an evening of traditional music and dance was held in Khartoum's famous Friendship Hall, during which Yusuf picked up his guitar and entertained the audience with a new version of the traditional anthem, Tala'al Badru 'Alayna, in honour of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

I learned a lot from this! Keep up the great work!
