While my opinions on the AMerican elections are entirely academic, since I'm a British citizen living in New Zealand, and I doubt our political philosophies have much overlap, I agree with you.

I'd add, however, that anyone inclined to vote for John McCain over Clinton or Obama because he's white or a male is demonstrating the same risible idiocies.

You're right. If the reason for choosing a candidate rests on the sex or race of that candidate, then you are, by definition, acting in a racist or sexist way.
