"We are the Knights who say... NI."

Gravatar I found a host through a friend. It's hostgator.com

You get 5G disk space (blogspot gives you 300 meg) 75 g bandwidth (more than enough so long as you do not host toms of videos and have 3000 hits per day.

$9.95 per month and it comes with WordPress (which I am very happy with.)

Their tech support is a real person. Not via email (although you CAN use email if you wish.)

No set-up fees.

You can generally get your domain through Yahoo (special deal as of a couple of weeks ago--5 years/$15) Usually domains cost about $7-10 per year. Nice savings.

Gravatar Until recently, I haven't used a hosting service in years. I just use my own cable connection and a linux server. It's really easy to set up, and I don't plan on having any kind of major slashdot type traffice anytime soon.

I recently did some work for a company that needed a hosting company. I used Godaddy, and I love them. I have had zero problems with them. Everything is perfect. I've used them for a long time to register domain names, but their hosting accounts are awesome too.

Gravatar I use Blogs-About Hosting (link on the sidebar toward the bottom). They were easy to get set up with and helped wit h the domain registration process. I pay $10 a month and I believe the domain registration was $20 for a year.

Gravatar 20.00 is pretty high for a year's domain registration.

Gravatar I went with AN Hosting through midPhase. It comes with Fantastico's WordPress auto install (Which was recommended to me by Phin). They registered my Domain name for no extra cost and they cost $7.95/month. It comes with 15GB of disk space and 250 GB data transfer. It's the same host Fitch used for Radioactive Liberty, and he said he has been happy with them. I haven't had any major problems...yet. (knock on wood)

Gravatar I found a link to blogsome somewhere as an alternative to blogger, and I like it. It uses wordpress so it took a little getting used to, but it's worth it.

Gravatar Oops. blogsome.

Gravatar I went with FuitadNET. $7.49 a month for 3 gig. Domain was $9.95 through them. They also have a 'silver' package with 5 gig for $10. I have Fmragtops and Steve the Pirate to do all the dirty work.

Gravatar Do they come with a base template?

Gravatar If you use WordPress it comes with two default templates, but WordPress has some links where you can download tons of templates.

Gravatar I think I'm going to try and build my own. At least I'll make an attempt until I find that I'm in over my head.

Sorry about the Squidward thing. It was from another site...

Gravatar I went with Hosting Matters "for all my hosting needs," and I've been fairly happy with them. No down time, plenty of server space and bandwidth for my shitty traffic, extra email addys, and the WordPress install and modification was fairly easy. There are tons of templates and they're pretty easy to work with. Dealing with comment spam and such was more tedious than with Haloscan, but Haloscan is the only thing I miss about my Blogger account. I think I pay $8/month for everything and I got a deal on my domain name.

Gravatar if you intend to use movable type you can't be hosted on go-daddy - incompatible for some reason.

I'm on Yahoo but sometimes blog updates time out.

As to the fellow who misses Haloscan - why can't he install it on whatever system he's using? movable type has a trackback mechanism but I use haloscan if movable type fails to do its job.

Gravatar Theres a way to do it, but the install is more complicated than the benefits of Haloscan. I just liked the summary pages and the pop-up windows, but the WordPress commenting system, after tinkering, exceeded my original expectations.
