I have always been a big Heinlein fan. I started with Stranger in a Strange Land when I was a teen, and was hooked right away. The Moon is a Harsh Mistress is a great story and a good lesson - tanstaafl!
I picked up copies of Atlas Shrugged and The FountainHead to reread this summer, and will then turn to the Ringworld series by Niven for some light entertainment on vacation.

Heinlein is always a fun read. His short stories are outstanding. I can recommend Asimov's short stories as well.

Stranger in a STrange Land was one of my favorite books. I have a ton of Heinlein, but none have grabbed me like that one.
Of course, I haven't read Starship Troopers or Moon ... so I have high hopes.
Rand is always a good read, although if you can read BOTH this summer ... hats off to you.

I sent RTO a bunch of Heinlein when he was overseas and he seemed to like them... and Robert B. Parker.
Dunno, my reading lately has been non-fiction. Dewey and the Joseph Campbell things, they're short and a bit repetative. Cause most of the things are from lectures and he has his pet phrases. Things you can tell he likes such as "Myth can be defined as other people's religion" or um, now I'm drawing a blank. but there are two or three things that I keep seeing.

Wow. Taking a break from re-reading Ayn Rand for the thousandth time and actually going off the Orson Scott Card reservation? I'm growing more impressed with your versatility. Although I suppose if I read up on Heinlein I'd discover he was a sad old right wing nutjerk like Orson Scott Card. Then I would be so disappointed!
I prefer to believe you are growing in your literary adventures.

Bob, if you look at my sorely out of date reading list over there on the sidebar, you will see I have a rather broad selection of authors I enjoy. I will ignore your slam/suggestion that somehow my reading interests are expanding.
I just reorganized my library, and the only genre that is absent is "Romance."
I'm also not much of a fan of Tom Clancy and his imitators. All plot, no character development.

I highly recommend Startship Trooper - the book holds almost no resemblence to those crappy movies they made.
And there are some interesting concepts in there, about "earning" citizenship et. al.
Bob, if you did read up on R. Heinlein, you'd probably not like him because he was first and foremost a capitalist - he made no secret of the fact that he wrote most of his stories to pay the bills.

Did you ever try 'Without Remorse'?
I think it was really one of his best, about the best 'fix-it' guy in the history of modern fiction.

Never read that one. Perchance I'll give it a go.
