CathiefromCanada Comments

Gravatar Good for you. The Dem contest just keeps getting weirder, but we should try to limit our exposure to the entirely insane ends of the discussion.

Gravatar I am/was quite shocked by the level of hysteria that the 'comment' caused. When I listened to the video of the incident it really didn't upset me. She was making her arguement that its not over till its over and then it was all,' she is calling for obama's assasination'...WTF?

Gravatar I have had 'cathiefromcanada' as the first item in my "favourites" for over two years, principally because the "links" provided me the most convenient alphabetical listing of "one-click, open-in-new-tab" links to liberal minded blogs with a wide spectrum of views.

Every day I clicked through to the following sites (in this order):
1. Huffingtonpost
2. Rawstory
3. Canadian Cynic
4. Americablog
5. Crooks & Liars
6. Daily Kos
Now there are only two links remaining after Cathie's purge of anti-Clintonista blogs.

In fairness to Cathie, it is obvious that anyone who criticises Clinton cannot have views on other issues that are worth reading.

This reminded me so much of the actions of another widely known Saskatchewanian blogger that I actually checked to see if anyone had registered the URL www.smalldeadobamas.com -- thankfully not!

See you at the book burning!

(Sorry if this is double-posted... it seems to have been deleted, but I'm sure that the moderator would never "kill" a a voice of opposition like Sirhan Sirhan did in June 1968.)

Gravatar Oooops! Looks like haloscan is really screwing up.
It's not my fault. Obama made me mention RFK's assassin.
After all, they're both not hard working white Appalachians.

Gravatar Oot, I'm sorry -- I'll put them back tonight -- I had always thought of my blogroll as mainly for my own benefit, not anyone elses -- but knowing that somebody else actually uses it, well, that makes all the difference.
I was just looking for an easy way to cut the list down a bit.
So check tomorrow and they'll be back!

Gravatar Thanks!
And thank you for being so civil, even though I may have overstated my case a little.

Gravatar Gah. When I first read what she said, I didn't even blink. Then the shit started hitting the fan and I thought, "What?! They're saying she was calling for an assassination? Or insinuating that he might be assassinated and she needs to stay in for insurance?! Really? Where do they get this shit from?"

I mean, I don't think I'd vote for her (we differ on the issues too considerably), but good god, it's more than clear that she points out Bobby Kennedy on more than one occasion because people remember that that was in June. They keep saying she shoulda been out by now, and she says, "But there are numerous examples of primaries running well into June" and then brings up one that EVERYONE can remember was actually in June and they say, "She's saying Obama is going to be assassinated!"

Yeah.

Gravatar Thing is, Cathie, a lot of people, especially Americans of colour, saw it that way, and it's not because of Rush Limbaugh. It's because there's a long history of both dog-whistle politics and political assassination of black leaders in that country. Of course she didn't mean it that way, but it's not unreasonable that it came across that way in context.

Gravatar 'THEY' say, "She's saying Obama is going to be assassinated!"

No! 'THEY' (meaning Obama supporters and others who wish that Clinton would just go away and stop embarassing herself) resent the fact that HR Clinton has injected the spectre of RFK's assassination into the contest and legitimised it as a talking point for the scumbaggery on the Republican side.

A Fox News host used Clinton's comment to spout the hate-filled line "Osama, Obama--would that we could kill them both!".
When confronted, the rightwingers point to Hillary and reason that she brought it up first, so it's OK to talk about assassinating a black muslim traitor to the white race who isn't even a woman.

"Yeah".

Gravatar LOL...
It is indeed a privilege to have my own links list. Thanks.

A few other regular reads of mine may be of interest to you:
www.bartcop.com is a rabidly PRO-Hillary site that I read every day.
http://rudepundit.blogspot.com is provocatively outspoken (that's Canadian for "fucking rude") about the entire political spectrum.
Both are well worth checking out and adding to your link lists.

Gravatar Here's the CONTEXT. She said exactly the same thing in March. Time Magazine:

TIME: Can you envision a point at which — if the race stays this close — and with the difficulties that everyone has analyzed in accumulating enough delegates to get any distance ahead where party elders would step in and say “Senators Clinton and Obama, this is now hurting the party and whoever will be the nominee in the fall. We need to figure this out.”

CLINTON: No I really can’t. I think people have short memories. Primary contests used to last a lot longer. We all remember the great tragedy of Bobby Kennedy being assassinated in June in L.A. My husband didn’t wrap up the nomination in 1992 until June, also in California. Having a primary contest go through June is nothing particularly unusual. We will see how it unfolds as we go forward over the next three to four months.

Gravatar Clearly an innocent statement.

Gravatar It's not what you say; it's what people hear. That's the way it is in politics. She should have known better.

Gravatar I agree, Chet -- it was a clumsy move, not a thoughtful one.

Gravatar OT Cathie, but--

BC Supreme has just shielded the Safe Injection Site from Harm's (ie. Harper's) Way.

Details all over the place and at my place.
