Gravatar The object in question is a lamp. This type of lamp was used from pre-leterate times to the early 18oo's (in the US, they might still be used in the third world). In american vernacular they were called "Betty Lamps".

they were designed to burn any available fat or oil--from finest olive oil to bacon grease, or even tallow.

The groved proturbance would hold a wick, or even the pith from a dried reed. The fuel would go inside. If the fuel were solid at ambient temp, the heat from the wick would melt it, and then it would be absorbed by the wick and burned to produce light.

This item would have been the common lighting of a workingclass or poor home in biblical times.

Gravatar That's right - A lamp - found all over the place with the other rubble in the middle east from the olden days.

Ya know...........the RCAB is asking for donations every day but then they spend it on the Dancing Dandy's (Ver Eke) disgusting blasphemy of Christmas, Bay Windows ads , targeting anyone who speaks Latin in the LATIN Church. Boston College gets PRAISE instead of a kick in the rear end. Catholic Charities gets praise instead of a kick in the rear end. People who never attend Mass and vote 100% pro-abortion are called "Catholic" and fail to receive the needed rebuke. How can someone fix something unless they admit that it is broken????
