Hey Bradley, nice new pad you got here.
All I want to ask is, is anyone/everyone else checking out all of the Keith Olberjerk/Chrissy Matthews/Joe Scarborough Fair/David Poop-Shutester/giant screeching bumbleflugelhorn that is MSNBC's "coverage" of the DNC convention? From what I've read even a lot of Dems are embarassed...

Knowing BOTH political parties, the OS requirements are there to allow them to implant spyware into your system---to monitor your activities.

How does Chris Matthews report anything while his legs are tingly? Doesn't that cause him to be distracted? Maybe, perhaps, rendering him unable to think clearly and critically?
Olberman. He is a tool.
The rest? Don't care. I miss Tim Russert.

I wouldn't mind the major political parties spying on my computer -- they'd then have to read about what little regard I had for them. The Democratic convention was filled with hype about the beneficence of Dems and the clueless insensitivity of the Reps. Next week the Republicans will likely return the favor with their own hype and caricatures.
Regarding this cockup, I can just imagine Microsoft or one of its minions offering to "donate" technology to the convention. The technology of course includes support for Windows and even Apple, but just happens to neglect Linux.

Nick Kristof has at long last admitted the obvious -- he owes an apology to Steven Hatfill. Kristof's column, though dripped with self-pity, asking us to don the mantle of the poor journalist sifting through ethical conundrums. Kristof didn't name the sources who fed him the bogus information, which he should have done.
Kristof expressed the bare minimum of regrets, and the whole column reeks of insincerity.

Eric,
Actually, the best explanation is incompetence.
Sure. It usually is. But calling Gates a Democrat is more entertaining and feels good.
Actually, I use M$ST products for a variety of reasons and have long liked them. I have also admired Gates' business sense since running across the "confidential" agreement with Apple sharing DOS and Lisa/windows tech. He cleaned Apples' clock.

Will Kristof be willing to pay personally into the multimillion dollar settlement that was recently awarded to Hatfill?
After all, he was part of that process...
Until there are negative consequences for such behavior, that behavior will continue, no matter how many reptilian tears are shed.

Actually, doug, I wasn't trying to get into the religious argument of OS preference. I was riffing on the disconnect that allows us to call a person or organization both wise and dumb.
It's like that old SNL routine, with Reagan seeming all simple minded but as soon as kids and such were out of the room, he became an Evil Genius.
In a similar way, it might indeed be that the DNC is getting kickbacks from MS and APPL. But like the folks at despair.com say about committees, "None of us is as dumb as all of us."
Words to live by.

I wonder how most of the people cited below will be voting in November? I wonder if such people, employed in a particular government agency, are similar to, say, members of the media, in which up to, or more than, 90% have similar political preferences?
I wonder how many of these type of people are the same ones who get very dreamy eyed when watching folks like Hillary Sniper-fire Clinton, or her husband, meaning-of-is-is Bill, or Barack I-love-flakes-like-Jeremiah-Wright Obama?
Dailynews.com:
360 of 690 claims [of LA County social workers] between July 2005 and November 2007 were for single-vehicle accidents based solely on employees' own statements that they were work-related. 80 employees filed about 170 claims - an average of two or more per employee.
One employee submitted four claims in a year, all single-vehicle accidents, totaling about $6,000. One employee filed two claims totaling $5,800 for damage that occurred on days the employee's timecard indicated she was not at work.
In yet another stinging audit of Los Angeles County's Department of Children and Family Services, a new investigation has found that hundreds of social workers in the past two years racked up $1.1 million in vehicle-damage claims that included a host of questionable payouts, officials said Tuesday.
Auditors said one social worker sought reimbursement for vehicle damage while off-duty, others forged supervisors' signatures on claims and dozens of claims for windshield damage were paid out at an average cost of $950 when the usual cost is about $265. In one case, auditors said, a social worker claimed a vehicle was totaled and filed a claim exceeding $10,000 - more than the vehicle's fair market value - even though a police report described the accident as a minor "fender bender."
The audit follows a spate of similar inquiries that have found systemic problems in the department. In August 2007, auditors found that the DCFS misspent millions of dollars on unnecessary and overpriced supplies and violated county spending limits. The next month, auditors found that social workers pocketed at least $100,000 in unwarranted overtime and bonus pay. And last November, an audit found that social workers spent tens of thousands of dollars on meals and entertainment, including tickets to the musical "Wicked."

The right to bear arms, real arms:
Under Iraqi law, each household has the right to have an AK-47 rifle and one magazine of ammunition.
I've long been expecting the NRA (I'm a life member) to opine on this and what lessons it holds for our own perceptions of the Second Amendment as protection from a failed democracy.
It seems the Police in Diyala have decided a new law is in order:
DIYALA PROVINCE, Iraq — The police chief of this restive province has ordered a ban on all firearms, including AK-47 rifles...
I wonder if this will be as widely ignored as the Coalition's early attempts to do the same thing.

The latest speculation is Sarah Palin although there is a lot of back and forth. If true, it would really shake things up. I don't think I would want to be Biden in the debate with her. She would also drag McCain to drilling in ANWR.

The response to the expected Democrat quibbles about her experience is that she, unlike Obama, is second on the ticket. Washington Monthly is shocked. Since Kevin Drum left, they have become Daily Kos Jr.

Palin is a good choice, although of course I personally would have liked someone more libertarianish. But while conservative, Palin is not a right-wing, extremist and she has an interesting life story.
I was also surprised to hear the WM ding her for inexperience. Talk about stepping on your own message!

I now have a post up with links to her story if anyone is interested. I have been interested in her for months as a potential VP but who'd a thunk McCain is that willing to wing it ? The quote on my blog about her.
In the roughly three years since she quit as the state’s chief regulator of the oil industry, Palin has crushed the Republican hierarchy (virtually all male) and nearly every other foe or critic. Political analysts in Alaska refer to the “body count” of Palin’s rivals. “The landscape is littered with the bodies of those who crossed Sarah,” says pollster Dave Dittman, who worked for her gubernatorial campaign. It includes Ruedrich, Renkes, Murkowski, gubernatorial contenders John Binkley and Andrew Halcro, the three big oil companies in Alaska, and a section of the Daily News called “Voice of the Times,” which was highly critical of Palin and is now defunct.

If the selection of McCain's VP had been up to me, I admit I'd have gone into Bill-Clinton mode----in which opinion surveys led Mr Meaning-Of-Is-Is around by the nose----and want to see polls of a large number of people to figure out who'd play the best. My preference was for Mitt Romney---(to me he looked like Central Casting's idea of a "president"), but there were peculiar undercurrents affecting him, just as there will be involving Palin.
The choice of Palin is both good and, well...I'm afraid I'm neither a psychic nor a reader of a crystal ball.
