This is my first post on this awesome blog. I too have been weeping at the photos and the comments - in a good way. I have also told everyone at the golf club, rowing club, folk club, office and random strangers on the train that my son-in-law is an Ironman. Universal respect follows my recounting of the times achieved for each event. I am so proud of you, Chris.

Let me just rain on this love fest a little bit and admit I slightly take exception to CKB's amazing feat and I am a little green-eyed. Just kidding. No I’m not. Yes, I am. Just playin’. Fore real though. Just foolin’.

Hey Chris!
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
We did it! What an incredible race. That rain just made it unreal - what an experience. I am still beside myself at what we just went through!
Glad you had fun, and met your goals man!

i'd say it was a 5. the guys who are pushing 7-10 are those who are keeled over and can't see straight.

Rachel, you were TRULY the IronWife that Chris needed to get through all the training/taper...RACE DAY jitters. You are such a beautiful, kind, classy woman. I'm proud to call you my Sister. It was amazing when Chris crossed the Finish and you and I just hugged and sobbed uncontrollably - if that wasn't a 'bonding moment' I don't know what is! xoxo

Words cannot express how so completely and utterly proud and moved I am by Chris's champion feat at IMLP.... what a superstar! I literally cried all day yesterday and felt I needed time alone to actually absorb the whole experience and release some of the emotions. It really was intense, exciting, totally nerve-racking (sheebs knows what I'm talking about... the "Goodbye Soldier" scene we sobbed through saying goodbye to the brave hero before battling the water), exciting, electrifying, cold-to-the-nipples-dropping-off-point, moving and incredibly inspiring. He was such a cool dude about the whole thing too..you all know him well and can prob imagine, but from the beginning he has been so motivated, hard-working, dedicated and such an 'ard nut (as we say in bris'ol). Never complaining, maybe a little quiet every now and again, but so strong. He would work out when to me he looked like he just needed a few more cuddles in the morning (sorry baby), or to rest those leggy-pegs, but no - he would get up and off he went to train so damn hard that it was scary!
It was fantastic to meet shauna and dom..in love instantly. Love all the Bowcutts and can't wait to meet daddy B too! To all you other 10,000 fans of CKB, thank you for being there through binza, phonecalls, thought, the lot. I know it has meant the world to him.. I think that he has had such an amazing network of support. Its so touching to see this.
So to finish off, I just want to say -thank you sweetie. Thank you for bringing me along on this journey with you (but sparing me the pain!). I have learnt so so much about you, athletism, life, power gels, peeing in swimming pools and shorts, how it is possible to achieve the once unachievable in my eyes, and lastly myself. I think I can see more possibilities in pushing myself (maybe not Ironman levels..infact NOT Ironman levels) but about where there's a will, there's a way. I have learnt I think where I can do a much better job of being a supportive Ironwife next time (like learning to cook edible schtuff, and letting you sleep a tinsy bit). You are the best. Seriously. You are an inspiration to us all. I love you Christapoo Ironman! xoxox

Kick A$$ weekend rain and all. Chris was a MACHINE through out the race, smiling and pumping his fist from start to finish. So cool meeting Rachel and their friends and hanging with Sheebs, who instantly bonds with absolutely everyone she comes in contact with. The second the cannon went off and the lake churned with 2000 plus swimmers, I was hooked. I can't wait to see Chris race again and follow the championships in Kona.

On a scale of 1 to 10, rate the mental anguish of that last 6 miles.
