No Book in the movie? I was hoping some of his past would come to light now.

Just read a review in the local paper. Guy isn't a Firefly browncoat but he said it's a pretty good movie. That's high praise. Tomorrow's my birthday so wife's taking me to see it as a present.

Just made arrangements to see it tonight.

Found a mp3 of Ballad of Serenity yesterday. Rarely does a show get so much right. I applaud Fox for running it if only for one season. I'm a new fan to Firefly (storing episodes on my DVR via Sci-Fi Channel), so I'm looking forward to seeing Serenity even though I'll have to work to convince my wife to go with me. Thank God I don't have to work that hard to get her to the range.

I'm also a later arrival to firefly. I started watching it on the DVDs about a week ago, and I am thoroughly hooked. Best sci-fi since the original Star Wars trilogy. And unlike other sci-fi, what really moves this is the characters. Two in particular are my favorites.

Mal. I love the idea of his character. Here's a guy who didn't like his overly bureaucratic nanny-state society and just said fuck it and left, but he didn't ever lose himself. He's still a very honorable man, he just lives by his own code now. He reminds me of Davy Crocketts famous quote after losing a political race in Tennessee "Ya'll can go to hell and I'm going to Texas."

Doc. Not many like him because he acts kinda wussy at times, but I just have to admire a guy who'd throw everything away for his family, despite his parents and his whole society telling him to look out for himself. Here's a man who, deep down, knows what is important in life. I hope that if I'm ever faced with something like that I have one half the courage he does.

Lets see... a review of the movie so you saw it free, right.

I did see it free, but my review would have been the same either way.

As happy as I am that SciFi ran the series leading up to the film's release, they really messed up the sound, and the pan & scan was painful to watch.

Jon, pay the $30 and get the DVD set. Wheadon filmed the show in widescreen for a reason.

That was rip roarin fun. My wife and I were hoping to hear the theme song as we lingered during the closing credits. Anyone hear them? We both loved the movie and my wife, who's not a sci fi fan, loved the series and the movie as well. She thought is was much more believable than Tom Cruise's War of the Worlds.

Definitely get the DVD set. I caught an episode on Sci Fi and the quality is grainy and sounds funny. Plus you get all the DVD extra commentary.

I'm gonna have to get the DVD set now. I saw the movie. It was a great ride.

Can't wait to see it! Firefly being the best series ever made - a tall order. But alas, Serenity comes out a week later in the UK.

FYI, Shepard Book is in the movie, he just no longer is on Serenity. He's an "honorary" crewman.

*sigh* Looks like I'm going to have to choose between Battlestar Galactica season 1 and Firefly. My Christmas list is getting longer and longer with nothing but DVDs. I didn't know that it was filmed in widescreen. Strange considering Sci-Fi is running it in P&S (yuck).

Thank goodness my wife tolerates Firefly better than BSG and Bablyon 5. I won't have to "trade" too much for her to go see it with me.

Jewel Staite: Yes SIR!

Not to diminish the other three ladies, but that character, (not to mention the actress that plays her), is a magnet to my inner-geek. Outer geek too.

Yum.
