You put that well. I, too, am pro-choice and always have been. I can't imagine NOT being able to have a choice in the matter of pregnancy. Options are everything. I love my kids (the one that's here and the one that's on the way). I do not feel, though, that it is the government's decision what a woman should do about her pregnancy.
You put your thoughts well. If only the government weren't run by the male idiots who run it now. Pregnant women should be in charge, I say.

Amy, I have always been pro-choice, but having kids really solidified my position. The thought that my daughters could grow up in a world where they would have to carry a pregnancy to term because the law says they cannot make a decision about their bodies is frightening to me.
Pregnancy is too hard and parenting is too important for there to be no choice.

I have so many feelings about this. But, ultimately, choice is necessary. Where people draw the line are the details--but without choice, there is nothing.

R2Ks, I completely agree. I can understand how someone can be "pro-life", but I cannot understand being "anti-choice". In an ideal world, every woman could get pregnant when she wanted and always have the support she needs to raise a child from birth to death (since we all know parenting does not end at 18 ). Women would have devoted and kind partners, if they so wanted a partner, rape and incest would not exist, etc.
However, we do not live in the world where unciorns roam free. We live in a world where teen mothers are punished, women who get pregnant out of wedlock better get married, and women who enjoy sex are sluts. It's not fair, but it is reality and until that changes women need choice.

Absolutely. It is inherently unfair that the entire situation rests on the woman--even when bad things happen TO her. But to remove any ounce of choice is wrong.

I agree fully. I loved what you said about no abortion being "more right" or "more wrong" than another. Regardless of the circumstances surrounding how the pregnancy happened, it is ultimately the woman who needs to decide what she is capable of, what sacrifices she is willing to make, and how feasible it is to raise a human adult over the course of the next 20 years.
Parenting is much more than fertility.

Rachael, you are so right. Parenting is so much more than getting pregnant. If that was all there was to it, I would sail through without ever losing my mind.
Every situation is unique and while some may be similar no two are the same. To judge another woman's place in life is more than I feel I have the right to do.
Sara and Deb, thanks!

There was a Blog for Choice Day and I missed it? WTF? Where was I? Ah, yes. I was covered in pukey milk and baby poop. Becoming a mother has definately anchored me in the pro-choice camp, but I'm sorry to say that I don't have as much time for activism these days. Kind of ironic, huh? Like rain on your wedding day, yo.

Casey, you can blog for choice any time you want, but yes Sunday was Roe v. Wade's 33rd anniversary.
Yes, it is ironic that making the choice to have a baby keeps a woman from being able to speak out about choice. However, I agree that vomit, poop, and exhaustion are enough to place many in the camp of choice. No book and no other woman can ever accurately tell you how hard it is to care for a new baby.

Came across your blog in a random fit of procrastination and wanted to complement you on how wel you articulate the pro-choice position.
I also borrowed your meme.
Hope you have a good weekend,
