Oh, he's lovely!!!
It drives me absolutely livid that people do this kind of thing, and it would have taken all my energy not to yell, "HEY LADY... YOU SEEM TO HAVE FORGOTTEN YOUR CAT!"

Mr. Ditched
Two Women without a Reject
Little Mr. Derelict
Chuck Enwoods
George Jettison
Mr. Seeya-Lator the Alligator
Mr. Affta-Wile the Crocodile
Forsaken
or my favorite...
Lefty.

I'm glad for your side note, as I was about to ask exactly that in my comment. How about "Treasure" for a name, as in "One person's trash is another's treasure." It's great that you rescued him.

gah, i'm a cat rescuer from long back, but have never seen someone in the act of dumping a cat.
he needs a noble name. if you are going with something mundane like "lefty," at least make it "sir lefty" or "the honorable count lefty."
[one of our cats came from the rescue people with the uninspiring name of "earl." seeing his personality, we had no choice but to re-christen him "the duke of earl," which is in fact his name at the vet.]

JF says to name him Mousehound.
Other good names to ponder are: Castaway, Gilligan, and any of the character-names from Lost.
Of course, I like Lefty and Treasure, too.
He's adorable! Offspring said: "Awwww!"

There's a special place in hell for those women.
He's beautiful.
I'm not so good with naming cats - my husband has named all of ours. I do like Lefty though...

Are you sure they were dumping the cat? Maybe they found it, and were just putting it back?
In any event, your gain. What a cute cat.

Oh. My. Goodness.
He is beautiful! And he is a BABY!
What is the matter with some people? I don't know why, but he looks like a Petey to me...Petey the pussycat.
I am the CCW in our neighborhood. As of last week, I have 6..yes I said SIX. This is who I rescued from a shelter one week ago...

As a rescuer of many felines - 13 to be exact - I am always excited to find more people who are kind to animals. Kindness to animals equates to kindness to humans, as well.
At my site, I started the Milo Institute of Feline Well-Being to honor the many cats that share my life. They all applaude your efforts and we're adding you to our "Appetizers" (links).
Keep up the good work and as Simone de bon de Bont adds: "Purrrfectly wonderful!"

He is very handsome! Since you found him at the Y, wouldn't Young Man be appropriate?
And I'm with anonymous - I'd like to think he wandered up to him, they cuddled him and then tried to let him go in a place that wasn't as dangerous as the parking lot. But that's me - always giving people the benefit of the doubt.

Anon I could have bought the found idea if they had not driven up with it in their car. Then it followed them rather than taking off towards home. Plus, he is in good shape. I can't imagine that anyone would find and take an obvious pet and then drop them at the Y.
Henry, welcome! 13? That is a lot of cats. I can only imagine what I would do if I lived in a rural area. I imagine my life would have even more animals, of all sorts. The cats are my favorite, though.
Then again, my favorite (now deceased) kitty was abandoned perfectly healthy and neutered at the apt. building we lived. Butch was owner relinquished by an elderly person but she took him to the shelter.
deb. my mom has 6. 5 has been our highest but we have been at 4 for nearly a year since Mitzi died. I cannot do shelters because it is too heartbreaking. Butch came from the county shelter "exhibit" at the Petsmart. I went in for a hamster and came out with nearly 20 pounds of wonderfulness.

First of all, thank you! for rescuing the sweetie. He is adorable and very lucky to be in your care.
Secondly, my children would like to suggest the name of Scatter, (which is the name they have picked out for the dog their mommy is mean enough to not allow them to have...for at least a few more years).

Considering this little fella happened to get dropped off right in front of the second-biggest (my MIL is first) cat rescuin' son-of-a-gun EVER... I think it's only proper to name him Serendipity.

we've had cats named after comic characters [snoopy, binkley], cats who came with names [too many to recall, but they include moose, persephone, and earl], cats who got dog names [fido, spot], cats who earned their names by having extra toes [frisky-toes, polly], cats that kids named [washing machine and dryer, nikki, etc.]. a name will come to you. xoxo

Those women -- grrrrrr. That's enraging. The new addition is lucky you were there.
In keeping with KLee's "Gilligan" suggestion, my name suggestion is Harry Kim - another 'youngest castaway' character from TV.

I would like to revise my suggestion for a name for this lovely kitty- I am going to give another vote for "Lefty". how perfect.
And I think i have Butch's clone living in my house. His name is Mr. Butler (as in Rhett- long story having to do with my grand-daughter Scarlett). His weight at his last vet check was 21.6 lbs. And he is probably the best cat I have ever owned. (Not a small number, believe me!) Our vet, Dr. Molly, told me that orange kitties are THE. BEST. EVER. She says that they have "catitude". I had to chuckle the first time she told me this, because Dr. Molly's hair is EXACTLY the same color as Butch and Mr. Butler!
How is the new one doing?

Aw, I'm glad you rescued him. If I wasn't allergic to cats we'd probably have at least one or two. As it is, we have to make do with an amazing dog.

how about "Lucky"? At the Area Sacra cat refuge in Rome there is a very eloquent poster (in Italian of course) about why one should NOT ever drop off a cat, and what happens to cats who are so dropped off..and it ends, "and if you go ahead and do it anyway, beh, VERGOGNA!!!" ("SHAME!!!")

He looks a lot like our new kitty, actually. Turtle (our new rescue from the Pound) is very very sweet. If this one is half as sweet, you'll be happy for the rescue.
