I see some hands over here...

1. STP. I thought they were posers, too, but, really...if you van manage to be the biggest junkie the world has seen since Keith Richard's heyday and still make records, then godspeed to you.
2. Lenny. That other song is just lame.
3. Green Day.
4. REM.

1. STP
2. I hate "Are You Gonna Go My Way" so damn much that I probably would have picked "MacArthur Park" over that horrible, horrible atrocity to the ears.
3. When I Come Around. Finally, a song that I honestly hope makes it to the later rounds.
4. What's the Frequency, Kenneth?

For the record, Cake's "Going the Distance" could whoop the ass of all these songs.
1. Standing outside...although Plush isn't bad, but STP sucks.
2. Jesus ass. None of the above.
3. When I come around. Best song today, so it will probably lose.
4. What's the frequency, kenneth? Not REM's best work, but still better than the Amos selection.

1) Abstain. I don't think I have ever heard either of these songs. (a shame, I know)
2)Lenny.
3)Green Day.
4) Cornflake Girl. Having only recently discovered Tori, and Kenneith is a sad sad excuse for REM.

STP. I couldn't hum a bar of that other song if you had a gun to my head so how memorable could it be?
White Zombie. All rock songs about Blade Runner are cool. Period. Besides, Lenny is a poser.
Green Day. I've just never gotten Britpop. Maybe I'm just not cool. That wouldn't surprise me.
REM. I have happy memories of this song. For exactly the reasons you're thinking.

Boy oh boy, this is the MTV Buzz Bin section of the bracket, isn't it?
Stone Temple Pilots.
More Human Than Human. Tom Jones outdid Lenny on the Jerky Boys soundtrack.
When I Come Around is the best Video of the '90s.
What's the Frequency, Kenneth?, the last song I played as a professional real radio DJ. It, like, made a statement, or something.

Green Day.

This is a really meh bracket. Like putting Wake Forest in with Pitt.
1. SOaBPBwMimH. Catchy refrain.
2. More Human than Human. Lenny can wait until "Again" comes up. Remember, this man remade American Woman.
3. When I Come Around. Connection is just annoying Brit whining.
4. REM - Let's all hope that Tori Amos fans don't find your blog and besiege those of us who voted against her.

I actually own a copy of Primitive Radio Gods' (or should it really be "Primitive Radio God's?") "Rocket." Also, I never understood the hooplah over Stone Temple Pilots; what was I supposed to like about them, again?
Woo, Zombie. I honestly hope I'm not going Lenny's way: I may get a real itchy case of Lenny Kravitz.
I'd much rather be forever listening to Neil Diamond's "Forever in Blue Jeans."
REM. The Tori Amos bus came by about the same time that the STP bus did, and I very clearly missed the both of them.

1) Stone Temple Pilots' "Plush"
2) My 1st abstention
3) Green Day's "When I Come Around" -Having never heard the Elastica song, I have to say I liked what I heard, but I would stop the car radio on Green Day.
4) R.E.M.'s "What's The Frequency, Kenneth?" - Never ever Tori Amos...

Primitive Radio Gods.
Remember when I said there was one good Lenny Kravitz song? This is it. BUT...I'd much rather listen to White Zombie.
Elastica. I have a feeling Green Day will have more chances soon, and this is a weak entry off Dookie.
Tori. The quality of REM's music declines proportionally to the increased intelligibility of Stipe's vocals. You can almost plot it on a graph. I don't really "get" either of these songs, but given this choice of head-scratchers, Tori's purr trumps Stipe's bleat.

White Zombie - really hated the commercial with "Are You Gonna Go My Way." If you sell out, you reap the consequences.
Green Day
What's the frequency, Kenneth? - Dan Rather kicks ass

"Plush." I like to stay awake when I drive, so "Standing..." is out of the question.
"More Human Than Human." Not a very appealing matchup, like Michigan v. Notre Dame.
"When I Come Around." Just because I like Green Day.
"Cornflake Girl." A tough call, but a fair one.

1. Primitive Radio Gods...there are only a couple of good STP songs and this isn't one.
2. Oncoming traffic
3. Elastica. "When I Come Around" has been too overplayed.
4. REM

Abstain on all except #4 where I vote for Tori Amos. Baltimore venue should be Ravens Stadium.
Tori Amos grew up nearby in Rockville, Maryland. Whenever I drive on Rockville Pike, Route 355, I like to play Tori Amos if I have her tape in the car. This is comparable to playing Beach Boys along the California coast, or Bruce Springsteen on the New Jersey Turnpike.
Tori's older sister was my wife's R.A. when Mary was at Maryland. The sister had Tori play on the dorm piano. Tori was just Ellen Amos then.

1. "Standing Outside . . .". I love this song. Music and lyrics go together so well.
2. "Are You Gonna Go My Way": I like Lenny.
3. "When I Come Around": Not as good as the rest of the "Dookie" album, but oh well.
4. "Cornflake Girl": Go to hell, Clippy. That said, it wasn't nearly as hard a decision as I thought it would be when I first saw the match-up . . .

Peimitive Radio Gods, B.B., forgive me for once mistaking that for a Van Morrison sample.
White Zombie
Elastica
R. E. M., mostly because, being really into Ken Nordine, the exact nature of a "violent green" is rather intriguing, and not at all covered in his list of greens. Unless it's a golf green, in which case so much the better.
Courage,

STP
Kravitz
Elastica - The opening hook always suckers me into listening.
R.E.M. - Even though it means I really can't go back to Rockville.
As for violent greens, wouldn't mentioning that get you thrown off the broadcast team for the Masters?
