Hope you right particularly on coverting DIS to a Mac company. I think if we can just score a few Fortune 100's or 500's, the "dam will break". Lower TCO and NO viruses--these are great, practical pluses that remain unrecognized by the CIO "club"
Two things: First, Disney already owns 50% of the Pixar library and is the distributor on all existing Pixar titles in perpetuity. Disney's overpaying for half of the rights to the Pixar library -- Jobs and John Lasseter are the real assets they're getting in the deal. Second, a year ago there were already iMacs on the desks of Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook's assistants, so presumably Apple is already on the approved computer list for the company. The real question is whether it becomes the *preferred* computer for the company and all its subsidiaries: ABC, ESPN, etc. If so, that alone could shape the future of Mac software development.
Years ago I worked at a vendor for Disney products, and thus had contact with several animation developers to aquire artwork for product displays. They told me that Disney was a beta testing center for Mac OSX. So Disney has been with Mac, at least in some capacity, for quite a while. The real issue is making this more visible to the public.
Your last point is the most important. Apple is going to have to continually re-negotiate deals with content cartels. Right now they're frightened of Apple's increased power. But Steve Jobs has a new position of prominence within one of the most important companies within the copyright cartel. That is going to give him a huge influence. Let's hope he wields his new power to the advantage of us, the consumers.
