I don't know about this. Nothing is stopping IBM, or even Dell from building these things. No question the serverfarm market is going more efficient and a shippiung container is probably one of the best ways to get there, but there is nothing proprietary about it. Sun and Google may have the early lead, but it won't last. This will turn commodity fairly quickly.
The ultimate computing commoditization play? Nah, that honor goes to Amazon's EC2...call a webservice, have a new virtual box in their datacenter ten minutes later. Call another webservice and get rid of it when the load goes down. Only pay for the computing you use.
