Actually, I did check it. It was the ACTIVITY around the story that promoted it to the front. The AP Wire story was there at the top, but KillFile's story was there a good 30-45 minutes before and that's what was first driven to the front of Newsvine - the AP Story came shortly after.
Just to clarify the situation, I wasn't comparing Newsvine to the mainstream media - they all had it WAY before the others. I was comparing Newsvine to Digg, Reddit, and Netscape.

I understand that the Newviners commented on the story quickly, but the temptation is always going to be to comment on the front page AP story. I still maintain that the AP story probably did as much to drive the commentary as the more enthusiastic Newsvine community and algorithms (although I must admit they are good).
Thanks for providing the background and details, and I apologize if I were harsh in my critique.
Peace,

No offense taken. I didn't clarify as I should have (my mistake). I agree with your assessment, that the AP story probably made the buzz around the story even "bigger", plus the "pretty" picture that went along with the article really drew the eye in.
Killfile though, he was right on that story, that was the amazing thing.
Cheers!
