NBC posts episodes for FREE online when they air. DVD of Heroes costs $40 on Amazon. HDDVD of Heroes costs $70 on Amazon. Or you can download from Amazon Unbox Video for $1.99 an episode. There are 23 episodes from season 1 of Heroes.

Shame on you for suggesting illegal pirating of NBC video because they are no longer on Apple iTunes.

Beanie, as you say, NBC posts the episodes free to watch online- they also broadcast them free over the public airwaves, which have been given to them as a public trust.

This is very different than music cd's and movie dvd's, which are not broadcast for free.

In terms of Fair Use, I (and most people) believe that anything broadcast over the public airwaves is fair game, and always has been- for my vcr, dvr, tivo or to download via bittorrent for personal use. If the networks disseminate it for free, they can't then dictate the use of a recording taken from the public airwaves.

The NBC guy just said that "it is estimated that the typical iPod contains a significant amount of illegally downloaded material" - ie, you tens of millions of iPod owners are ALL thieves. That is utter crap. This is the contempt with which NBC regards the US public.

I have never used bittorrent to download recordings of network TV because it's a hassle, and it's so easy to buy from iTunes- but I don't particularly agree that it's illegal in this case- and I am of a mind to have these arrogant, contemptible jerks create their own self-fulfilling prophecy.

NBCU has a plan for this. They are literally asking the FCC to require "filtering" of the entire internet to stop copyrighted works from being transmitted.

Almost as stupid as it is frightening.

At least in China they censor with the claim (however bogus) that they're protecting the fabric of society.

In America it is being proposed to save the Sitcom.
