I hope the panic sellers are buying gold. AAPL stock is much more likely to do well this year than the US Dollar.
I wish I could buy AAPL, but I exhausted my cash balance last week snatching up Intel. In two years, Intel went from 20 to 26 for me-- now back to 18. It's the same company. They still have no realistic competitors. They even had a good quarter. They'll be back to 26 in a year.
I think the recession will last only until we get some adult leadership in the White House. Maybe another 15-18 months.

I have a bundle invested in Apple, but you only lose money if you sell. I guess the majority of market didn't see that way. How else can you explain the reaction to Apple having their best quarter in history? The stock is going to go back up, probably sooner rather than later. The only thing I regret right now is the fact that I don't have more money lying around to invest. This is a perfect buying opportunity.

Think for a moment why Apple has a Mandarin speaking Director on Board......! Next step for Apple...China... the place to be in a global market.... talk about forward planning.... Kudos to Steve Jobs.

You picked a fine time to leave us Lucille!!!
Seriously with all the ridiculous Wall Street drivel trying to make an astonishing quarter into a bad thing (ignore 44% growth in Macs, but fixate on "unit" growth of ipods--as if selling 30 million commodity shuffles would have been better than transitioning the ipod franchise into a handheld wireless platform)... I really miss Carl's daily presence.
Meanwhile, has anyone noticed that Apple could buy back 100 million shares and have plenty of cash left over?
But seriously, Carl, you see what I see... that a lot of these devices will have Apple logos on them. The ipod size and price range will now support a mobile platform, not just a digital Walkman. And Apple is both perfectly positioned and astue enough to capitalize. It also explains the Zune--MS saw this coming too, saw that it threatens part of its PC franchise, and is desperate to get into this space.

Yes.... Carl is very much missed! In this period of extreme dis information and manipulation only his perspective is worth following. I hope there might be something more from you over the weekend Carl.

Paul

Carl, I would love to hear your opinion on whether analysts are fully comprehending Apple's deferred revenue figures. I know you wrote back in the Summer how significant this was.
My feeling is that they aren't fully understanding this deferred number since they still compare EPS YOY, where they compare Apples to Oranges, since they aren't factoring in the deferred revs.
