Good article, but let's be clear, when has a multi-billion dollar company given up it's control overnight? I don't see Verizon Wireless or AT&T changing their ways. At least not quickly.
Technology change has caused multi-billion dollar companies to change but not within 5 - 10 years; usually longer. Just from memory, the movie industry thought they came under attack with Cable, vcrs, dvd technology and they fought them until it dawned on them that they could make more money with them rather than against them. But how many years did that take? And how many new laws had to be added for them to change?
I see the same with Wireless companies. They won't rollover just because of technology. The iPhone has made AT&T behave differently than previously; but the iPhone has also increased AT&T's customer base making them less likely to change. Why would they as long as they receive more money from more customers than before.
Yes, the change will come but not as quickly as we would like.
