"he largest maker of consumer devices in the world teamed up with a company that has 95% market share of the computer OS business"
8 track tapes had a pretty good market share at one time, too. The Times, They are a Changin'

If Apple, who knows squat about handsets can do it, then Nokia which knows everything and more about handsets and carriers can do ten times better than Apple.
They'll take even a bigger revenue cut with their wonderfully outdated but feature rich handsets. Everyone in America will ditch their two year iPhone contracts just to get the next Nokia iClone. They'll even throw in a stylus and pull-out keyboard added to the virtual screen keyboard just to satisfy all users. Don't forget a 10MP camera to take the place of the best digital camera. Two SDHC slots for a total of 32 GB storage. Bury that useless iPhone feature list with Nokia goodness.
Nokia has always said that they can copy anything and make it better than the original. Reverse engineering will create a much better OS and UI than OSX. Yeh, the iPhone is a thing of the past once Nokia gets it's iClones up and running.

What is hurting Nokia, is that the iPhone is taking away high net worth customers and is in danger of creating an iTunes/iPod like ecoculture which would exclude Nokia.
Not only does Nokia continue to sell 100 millions of phones per year, but they also have the new N810 tablet, which shows how innovative they are.
What has been holding me back from using the web apps in my Sony Ericsson K800i phone is that the telecos do not offer a flat rate deal for web browsing in Switzerland.
I'm getting an iPhone when they become available in Switzerland, because only then will the combination of surfing on a telephone network or through a wifi spot become financially feasible for me.
Nokia should have bought some Telcos and then offered a global single tariff for roaming and internet experience integrated with their phones. This combinatin would have been unbeatable.

If they can sell that much junk, it makes me more optimistic about the iPhone.
