Gravatar "This rumored deal reminds me of when AOL decided it wanted to merge with Time Warner to bring Internet business smarts to the old and staid world of media. That merger nearly killed both companies"

Exactly right. Taking two really stupid companies and combining them does NOT look like a formula for success. How could it be?

It would be personally painful-- i'd have to can my long-term Yahoo Email account (which is far inferior to Gmail, BTW, but I've had it forever. More painful-- I'd have to move like 10 gigs off Flickr, because you KNOW MSFT would screw it up, just like they screw everything up.

Gravatar Any idea how many people dumped Hotmail when MSFT bought it? I never had a Hotmail account, but I suspect the service quality went way down hill.

Gravatar i think that microhoo? would be a better (or perhaps more correct) name for the aforementioned company.

Gravatar I think this is a bad idea for Microsoft because google is so good as a search engine from the point of view of users. This is reminiscent of Time-Warner buying AOL.
One good effect though, this would help break up MS's monopoly, which would help the every industry in the US. When's the last time Microsoft software made you more productive?
