Gravatar Very exciting-- and plausible. I put my Roth mostly into AAPL this year.

Gravatar Hmmm... I'm guessing that Apple is helping Miglia create a "Made for Apple TV" recording device that sits beneath the Apple TV unit. Apple likely recognizes that a lot of people want a living room media device that records, but may not be able to create one without upsetting the TV networks and movie companies that it's courting for content. So, instead, Apple quietly provides the information that Miglia needs to tightly integrate a recording device with iTunes. It could be the beginning of a new third-party ecosystem - one that Apple hopes will take off like the one that surrounds the iPod. Just a thought.

Gravatar Does My Miglia TV product work with Apple TV?

Yes, All Miglia TV products can export to the desired formats for Apple TV.

Apple TV uses iTunes to manage and sync content from Apple TV to the Mac. Miglia's TV products will export to iPod/iTunes compatible format (H.264 or MPEG-4). All videos get added to the 'TV Shows' section of the iTunes library. TVMax performs this change in formats onboard, your Mac does not need to do the export work for you, TVMax performs this in hardware in real time.

The iPod/iTunes export format is selectable as 320x240 and 640x480 in size.

The offical Apple specs for the Apple TV files are:
H.264
Protected H.264 (from iTunes Store):
Simple profile MPEG-4: 640 by 480, 30 fps

TVMini, TVBook, TVDuo and TVMicro will 'export' the file after recording to be compatible with Apple TV.

Unlike TVMini and much of our range EvolutionTV and TVMax record straight into MPEG-4 (no need for a long export of the file). This means TVMax is the only product available on the market that records straight to iPod and Apple TV compatible formats!

For our other products you can automate the exporting so that recordings export directly into iTunes, iPod or Apple TV.
More information will be added as it becomes available to us.

Gravatar This article completely misses the point: AppleTV is a new distribution system. Does Apple make money letting you record TV? Nope. Does Apple make money when you subscribe to shows on iTunes Store? Absolutely. That's what AppleTV does: connects your TV to iTunes Store.

Apple's sights are set much higher than competing with Tivo. Instead, their target is Time Warner Cable, DirecTV, Comcast, etc.

Apple wants to be the new cable company, and the AppleTV is their version of the "cable box".

Get it?
