Well, IBM coined the term PC for the market category which Apple single-handedly created.
This time, Apple should try to coin the word for the new market category that the iPhone is creating.
That's pretty amazing that Apple has created at least two product categories which didn't previously exist and which have become integral in our culture. I guess a third one would be the PDA, which the Newton spawned. (Don't know who coined that category name.)
We Mac users don't care as much about the labels given to Apple's inventions, we're just happy to use their innovative products.

That is during launch week back in Jun-Jul. For Sep-Oct it is about 6%. iPhone Traffic also dropped to 100K weekly from 500K weekly at launch.
AT&T recently released the Tilt which competes with iPhone. Seems to be a hit. Obviously, it is more profitable to sell your own branded phone.
