I think we have tended, in my experience, to become inured to such obvious b.s. as product launches simply because marketers have gotten away with preannouncing stuff for so long. Even Apple's starting to do it, and that kind of sucks; the day of announcement and the day of sale were always the same (though the day of SHIPMENT was always kind of moon-phase-dependent 
Becoming inured is still no excuse for it.
