Hmm - any chance that these inventory depletions are the precursor to the introduction of a new model - maybe the long desired 3G model? Or simply 16GB instead of 8GB?

If this were true, then the dramatic & much reviled price cut might have been aimed at using up current inventory of the 1G model in time to have the 2G introduced before the European rollout in November.
