Gravatar mmmmh - how about NOT wasting even more manpower on the pods and instead getting the Mac product line back on track, quality management back to work, and the apple key back on the keyboards?

Gravatar Pretty cool.

Gravatar I can't wait for the new ipod... this is great work. Thanks! http://pixelspotlight.com/

Gravatar How about adding a AM/ FM radio feature to the iPod lineup. That would get me to buy a new one.

Gravatar I would love to see support for playing FLAC files on newer iPods. The MP3 had a very nice run but I think it's time to move to something much superior. The quality of FLAC file is incredible due to the fact that it's an exact duplicate of what's on the CD. C'mon APPLE, let's have some FLAC support.

Gravatar how about bluetooth?

Gravatar I think the interface redesign will be more significant than any physical changes Apple does to the new iPods. I would be surprised not to see "cover flow" enhancements to the iPod and nano lines. Though I don't think we'll get it, I'm still holding out for an iPod that looks like this mockup from 2006.

Gravatar I disagreee. If Apple is going to sport Video Support for the new iPod Nanos, they wouldn't just have 4GB & 8GB models. Movies can be up to 2GB or higher...

Gravatar Thanks for all the thoughts. I think Anders has the overall concept right. And while movies can be big, there is an awful lot of video content that will fit in 4 and 8 GByte nano models -- after all, if there weren't, 4 and 8 GByte iPhone models would be non-starters, and we know they aren't.

Regarding adding new audio formats, that's a possibility any time, but it requires a careful balancing of processing requirements versus quality. At present, Apple is pretty careful about how many formats iPods will currently play, and I think that is smart. After all, with MP3, AAC, Apple lossless, and AIFF, some of which can run at high bitrates, most of the music spectrum is pretty well covered today. The bigger challenge is getting music companies to encode in more formats than these, and quite frankly, I think any big changes there are unlikely in the near future.

What do you guys think? I heard the AM/FM radio thought. Any other features you think are must-haves in September?

Carl

Gravatar I tend to think Apple won't include an AM/FM radio. They already have that as an attachment for the iPod. (plugs in through the headphone wire) And though also unlikely, I would guess we would see XM radio before AM/FM radio.

I think we'll see (as Carl mentions) larger capacity flash players. While it isn't realistic at this point, I would love to see the video iPods go flash based. (no moving parts = longer battery for movies) I've already mentioned the UI, but I think they should also go with an embedded version of OSX like in the iPhone to get there.

Gravatar They'll def drop, but I'm just curious about the configurations: http://thenewsroom.com/details/6...?c_id=wom-bc- js

Gravatar I love Apples designs.. they're awesome!
