"It wasn't that long ago that cable TV bills were $20-$30 a month; now many US households have cable TV bills in the $100-$200 range"
I use Time-Warner for Cable internet. I contemplated adding Cable TV. I expected there would be a small upcharge. In fact, they wanted something like $60 a month for basic service-- no discount at all for existing T-W customers. What a rip-off! A few hours of the Discovery Channel a week aren't worth $60/month!

Mr. Cerf is right on. It makes network neutrality that much more important. I know Google is fighting for that and this is a good reason. I would mention that point to point TV such as Joost is probably more interesting in the long-run than unicast TV like YouTube, but I'm not going to argue with Google's deep pockets in the fight!
