Did anybody truly ever think that the Microsoft Surface was anything but an attempt to stop Apple from grabbing so much press prior to the release of the iPhone? I did see it show up on a SciFi show (Smallville? Eureka? Can't remember), but other than being an expensive prop, the Microsoft Surface was never positioned to be more than a fancy interactive kiosk. By chasing everybody else's tail, Microsoft really seems to have lost itself. In my opinion, that is good for the industry. There's room up at the top again.

Having used both the Surface and another IR sensor-based LCD rig (not LG's) I can attest they have very different feel and experience. I like to see innovation in the space above and beyond the MS Surface but I'm skeptic about the precision the IR sensor can provide over large surfaces. Any first-hand usersof LG's stuff would like to comment?
Also the software design makes a big difference. Apps designed for coarse, sweeping gestures will tend to 'feel' better than those requiring precision on sensors this size.

Has anyone actually developed apps for the Surface, or is it still just a proof of concept waiting to become more Microsoft distraction vaporware?
