English Patis

Gravatar maybe half cream is what we call here as half n half, then the single cream is light cream, double cream is heavy cream, and then I don't know what your equivalent to our whipping cream.

Anyway, I have been making my mashed potatoes by sort of half-boiling half-steaming them (by adding water to reach just half of the height of potatoes- turo ng nanay ko for potato salads). Then I add butter first to let it melt while potatoes are super hot then I use the beaters not running just to break them up into smalled pieces. Saka ko lang add yung half-n-half and beat on lowest speed of hand mixer to make it fluffy and light and creamy. Konting salt and pepper (usually white) tapos kanya-kanya na kami ng timpla sa plato.

Gravatar hi rowena, wow 5 kilos! That's a lot. Yeah do mash, colcannon, rostis, baked potatoes, scalloped potatoes ... variations are endless.

Gravatar hi Toni,
Single cream is also known as just 'cream'. I guess it was called that as opposed to double cream, clotted cream, or whipping cream. The main difference is in the butterfat content - the whipping and clotted cream being on the higher end while the single cream and half cream on the lower end. I think the canned Nestle cream is classified as sterilised cream? Not sure but maybe I can check on the tin later.
Here is an informative site on the subject: http://www.dairytraining.org.uk/...oduct- cream.htm

Gravatar Yum! Great idea....I just bought about 5 kilos of potatoes that were on sale without giving a thought as to what I would do with all of them!! Mashers and braised hasenfeffer sound good just about now

Gravatar Hi! What is single cream?

Gravatar Is it colored yellow? If not puede na rin siguro pareho naman siyang beans. Hehehe!

Gravatar chef ck! a new twist to a tried and true dish...that's one of the great benefits of blogvisiting. my kids are "mash-heads" too + i just bought a 5-lb bag of Idaho spuds (.99 cents lang!)= poifect for tonight...(i'm doing math na rin!) i want to try that brisket too.
(btw, yellow bean sauce=ground bean sauce--for praised braised wings?)
