English Patis

Gravatar Hello kabayan!
salamat sa iyong recipe na totong.
it is also one of my favorite mirienda!

Gravatar Inna: Naku matagal na itong comment mo bago ko nasagot. Taga Amaya, Tanza kami. Doon ako nag elementary.

Ladyseashells: Hello! This snack also harks back to my childhood. Regular kong binili ito sa malapit na sari-sari store. Just the aroma of that toasted munggo brought a lot of memories.

Gravatar Hi I clicked this picture. Wow what a discovery! We used to sell this in elementary as a school snack to our fellow students, as part of our home-make. Believe ako saiyo, you know alot. I wish na sana pwede kitang sabitan ng ribbon man lang sa galing mong mag luto. Well, keep up the good work.. Your blog is very encouraging to some takot na kusinera. Good job!

Gravatar Hi, Celia! Sorry...I've been really busy the last couple of days and I haven't been online. Anyway, thanks for all your recipes. They are such a big help. I'm originally from Tagaytay. That's where I grew up. I spent all my childhood days there...lol...I also stayed with my brother for a while in Cavite City and met some really nice people there. How about you? where are you from? I understand you're from Cavite also?

Gravatar Hi Inna, from where in Cavite are you? Thanks for dropping by.

Gravatar Arghhh!!!1 Childhood memories umaatake....I used to eat that when I was little...Back home in Cavite, my mom used to make that a lot for merienda.....So yummy!

Gravatar Looks yummy ..Celia..
Does your spouse eat stuff you cook..?? mine doesn't.. arrrghhhhhh..!!

Gravatar Uy another totong childhood memory from Manang.

Gravatar When I read the title, I had a hard time picturing what this was, but when the final photo finished downloading, my reaction was, "UY! Alam ko to!!!!! Nakakakain ako nito nong bata pa ako. Masarap tooooo!!!!"

Thank you for sharing this. I love you!!!!

Gravatar @Sam, Moira, Rowena: Thanks girls for dropping by.

@Thess: Why did it snow in Mallorca? I haven't forgotten the pics. I will send it out within the week. Promise!

Gravatar I have to say.....this dish looks downright delicious. Definitely comfort food. Way to go celia!

Gravatar Really tita C, sister's got the same? mine was diagnosed when I was 15...

I'm ok, waiting for 'someone's picture, he he he...kumusta you and your weather dyan? we're a having thin layer of snow....btw, have you seen what's happening to Mallorca, Spain? lugi mga turista sa beach ano!

Gravatar Holy Cow! This sounds absolutely amazing! I think this has gone straight to the top of my list of bean dishes that I must make immediately...thank you for posting it!

Cheers,

Gravatar looks and sounds yummy!

Gravatar Bokbok: hello, how are you doing? This is actually my first time to cook this. But I often watch my mother and our neighbor who sells it in her carinderia.

Gravatar Cathy, you are a heroine. Imagine reading and summarising 72 entries in the IMBB! Thanks a load for hosting and hope there will be more in the next one.

Gravatar ah, yes! in Taguig, we call it ginataang munggo. I remember preparing this once, in school, when I was in grade-V. I love this and only got the chance to have it in carinderias, unfortunately, my mom doesn't know how to cook this.

Gravatar Celia - this sounds delicious! I love rice pudding, but have never had this before. I love your ingenious use of the hair dryer! Thanks so much for participating!

Gravatar @Jmom, Ajay, luchie_g & purplegirl: I was craving this one cold day so I decided to make my fantasy come true.

@Mrs.P: What's sinukmani? Sarap ng ginataang halu-halo.

@gelay: Taga Cavite City ka ba? I hope you're not buried in snow like NE USA.

@a8: Okay ang name na yon - lelot balatong.

@Karen: That's the word - winnowing! Thanks loads.

@Thess: Naku my younger sister suffers from something similar. She has some mild form of arthritis since her 20s. How are you gurl?

Gravatar Tita C, ang sarap nito!! Bawal sa akin ang munggo (niluto ko munggo ni Manang, sarap ng recipe- kaso sumakit tuhod ko ..odiba, nagkwento pa? )

bahala na, iluluto ko ito!

Gravatar yum, yum! this and guinataang mais are my favorites.

i'm making some later. ka-ka-gutom ka kase, eh.

Gravatar Uy, you read my mind again! This is one of the recipes I had on my short-list for the IMBB but decided to reserve it for sometime.

We also call it lelut balatong like the Ilocanos. Tahip to us is tatap - I'm not sure if it's winnow in English. I was also looking for a precise English translation for a previous entry. In any case, winner 'to!

Gravatar celia,
Wow! sarap nyan...gutom tuloy ako. the first time i ate that was when i was in grade 2, magmula non, naging paborito ko na. i tried to cook last time, naku nasunog yung monggo.

Gravatar akala ko kung anong ginataang totong.....sa mga ilokano...ang tawag diyan is lelot balatong pero mas kilala sa tawag na ginataang munggo. Purong malagkit ba? masarap kasi kapag walang halong bigas.

Gravatar Hello!

We also call that kind of ginataan as Totong.

Gravatar Hi Celia! I love this..haven't tasted it in a long time but always will be a comfort food and a favorite childhood memory. Your post surely made me crave for ginataan...yum!

Gravatar hi celia,

i was just thinking about ginataang monggo last saturday. i didn't get it but ended up having bilo-bilo
with lots of langka, made violet by maligat na ube, made even deadlier by throwing in chunks of sinukmani that would have given the samala and legazpi pudding from cavite a run for their money.
haay, sarap kumain.

Gravatar Celia, hi! I was looking for mongo in my cupboard this morning to enter in IMBB too, but no luck. I found some white beans, so used those instead. I am wanting something sweet, and between this and the krispy creme and your blog, I am really drooling, now! I love this!
