Hi Sharleen, para sa akin kahit anong breadcrumbs puede. But I think the ones made from old/stale breads is the best for pandesal.

Hi celia
I've tried your pandesal recipe and it turn out to be better than the other recipes that i had tried before. It certainly nice to eat it with liver spread. When I live in the UK i can buy RENO liver spread in Filipino market by Earls court in London or attend one of these Philippines Festivals like in Heathrow or in Peterborough one stall in there sells lots of Pilipino foods products.
Nice going here celia, thanks for the recipe.

Hi Zita, you've got a nice blog there and a cute son, too. About the pan de sal recipe, sure you can put it in your blog but please try it out first. I personally would reduce the water by at least 1/2 cup. I will try to make it again so I could update this recipe. Thanks for visiting !

Hello. This looks scrumptious. I didn't realise that pandesal was so easy to make. I will try this recipe soon. Thanks for sharing it. Can I borrow the recipe and put in on my blog? And if you have time, please drop by my site as well.

Mae: Don't you have liver spread there? Just tell me I could send you some.
LIW: Yeah we've got Reno liver spread here though I still prefer Lady's Choice brand. Actually when I first came here in London 10 years ago the first thing I looked for is liver spread and pickle relish.
eat matters: That works for me, too. Or even better, how about pan de coco?
Gerald: It does takes awhile to get it right. And since this is just my first attempt you will probably see lots of updates later.
Relly: Pareho tayo ni Lani - kesong puti ang hanap !
Stef: I will surely try it again one of these days with half the called for yeast. Let's see what happens.

Xtine: Anytime, tin.
Ging: Yep nice with some scrambled eggs.
Sha: Yeah, I realised early on that I had too much yeast and too much liquids. Also I will use strong bread flour next time.
MM: Homemade bread definitely is better than store bought ones ! My family can attest to that.
Lani: Kesong puti ! Nakow matagal na akong hindi nakakakain nyan.
LooneyInBarnsley: Hello Nunu's mum ! Inggit ako sa yo pauwi ka na in a few weeks' time - isama mo na lang ako sa maleta mo puede ba?

very nice celia! yeah, that's probably too much yeast. my pandesal recipe also had 1 tablespoon originally, but i found that i had better results using only 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) -- just a longer rise though. but what's nice is it develops a nice almost sourdoughy quality. sarap n'yan ha!

Hi, I found your blog off of Andrew's spitoonextra.biz site. Your pandesal looks like when I made my first attempt at baking them, though mine came out very very crusty and pretty much raw in the middle - totally inedible. I had to throw the whole batch away, I think my yeast was dead. This is a recipe that will make me many iterations to get right! Good luck on yours!

Celia,
Tanong ko lang, saan mo kinuha ang picture na nasa unahan? Sa UK ka diba? Don't tell me may nag-e-export ng RENO liver spread sa UK. If so, then I am amazed.

Pandesal! You are so right they're scrumptious with liver spread (hey, i've never seen reno spread in many many years! but i recognised it straightaway and i thought wow). Great with ice cream definitely, dunked in black coffee, just with butter, oh there's just too many ways to eat pandesal. Love them straight from the bakeries oven.
Well done for accomplishing this great adventure and thanks for sharing it with us.

Hello tita C!
Hay, pandesal sarap talaga. I remember the pandesal from Juat bakery, talagang ang lutong at ang sarap ng laman. Kakagutom! Tapos mainit at may palamang kesong puti, grabe!

Looks pretty good for a first try on the recipe! I think all homemade bread tastes just so much better than something made in a commercial bakery...must be the sweat factor!

Madam C.. based from my trials and errors sa pan de sal is you cant really use the exact flour measurement.
because the quality of the flour varies
I did the same I copied the exact measurement
but when the pro M helped me.. he told me add a bit more flour. He said you can feel daw sa dough.
also parang na over proofed ang dough.
so next time just play around sa quantity....hinay hinay lang ba..

the expert of eating hahaha

Joey: Yes I was just looking at it awhile ago. I definitely have to reduce some of the measurements.
Ces: The smell was really wonderful. Try it sometime but not my recipe yet ... hehehe... I still have to tinker with it.
Jo: Oh yeah, the gluten content! (why didnt I think of that) Thanks for pointing it out. That definitely had a factor. I remember a chef not being able to make a proper Yorkshire pudding in Paris until he found out Brit flours have higher gluten content than the French ones.
Jmom: Naku if you're going to make one dont get mine yet coz I still have to tinker with it. Lots more updates on it next time.

I like pandesal simply with just a good slice of cheese or when available, pancit! haha! now that would be carbo overload
I haven't tried making pandesal yet... I think I may try it soon too. Gaya gaya kasi eh

Celia;
I saw that you got the recipe from your relative.
I assume that you know that the gluten content of flours vary from country to country? All-Purpose here in the States is very different from the same beast in England or even Belgium.
Perhaps you should make it with a mixture of flours to get a higher gluten (and perhaps less sticky) ratio.
They do look yummy though!
