English Patis

you know, this seems like so much work but in the Philippines, street hawkers carve those pineapples in less than 2 minutes, hardly needing to look at what they're doing...!
it's pretty cool watching them...

Gravatar you just reminded me I have to do this! I have a pineapple ready for cutting in the kitchen. I've taught my girls to cut pineapple this way too, and when they saw the pineapple peeler gadget at the store, they both said, oh, but this would make such a waste! I agree

Gravatar makes me homesick! i agree this is still the best way to peel a pineapple, we have the same technique, passed on from generation to generation : ) thanks for sharing!

Gravatar your story reminded me of my cravings for pinoy food and since i wasnt that particular of asian specialty shops here in france i searched on the net to find one and convinced my "darling" to drive me there..I was so glad when i discoved Paris store..all the asian ingredients that i wanted (from patis to bagoong) the result i went back home with tons of asian ingredients good enough to last for a year..by the way i came across your foodblog thru lasang pinoy..

Gravatar Aloha, Celia - that looks just like my dad does it! Beautiful! I can never get all the eyes out while the pina is still whole like that!. I end up quartering it after peeling, then taking the eyes out. Guess I have to practice some more. :- )
