My wife, a Filipina, is the same way. We just came back from Cebu. On our way from Ormoc back to Tacloban, we bought some pinas from some vendors in the mountains (P100 for 8, what a deal!).
She puts salt on almost every fruit. I just don't get it. Doesn't suit my kano palette.

hi Paoix the sea salts found in supermarkets here are white as snow and does not really smell and taste like those in Pinas. Although some of those from France are more similar because they are less processed and have got some bits and pieces from the sea.

i wonder how this compares to Philippine sea salt? I know the sea salt in the philippines definitely has a distinctive smell and taste to it. the ones that i've been able to find in grocery stores here in the US don't have that smell...probably the processing

Dhanggit: Yeah, back in Pinas sea salt is so common and I'm just staggered that we don't have more of it here in UK which is an island nation as well.
Fortuitous Faery: yep it's expensive. One of those things that I think are geared more for foodies or high-end restos.
Alam mo, I still prefer our empanada over the Cornish pasty. IMO, it's got more complex flavour and definitely more tasty.

yikes, what expensive sea salt! but i'd love to go to cornwall someday! only been to london, bath, windsor castle and stonehenge!
i'd also love to try their cornish pasties!

i remember when i was a kid my dad often take me with him to the market, and every single time we come he never fails to buy his favorite sea salt..the peddler is even shouting "ang asing lasang manok". funny isn't it? i agree that we love sea salt coz its really perfect for sour or sweet fruits that we eat! and i guess its cheaper for us to make salt from the sea. we are surrounded by water
