A nice thought, but I am, of course, a bit too cynical.
Any rebuilding or aid comes from young people able to do it.
Their hearts can still change.
Then they return to the old life, and the old men that still harbor hate.
By sheer attrition, young hearts turn old.
And it pisses me off, but there is always hope.
And all hope lies in the children.

Ma Nature lately is giving us all good reason to understand that our bitter enmities and our petty squabbles and everything in between are not a patch on what she can do to any or all of us. I don't mean that should unite us against Ma Nature as the enemy -- God forbid! we've done enough to her already -- only that, if we wish to survive as a species, we must soon come to realize that each of us is all the rest of us have to depend on. Linking arms to help keep each other afloat and treading water like crazy is about the only chance I see for mankind. Realistically, I confess I don't see it as likely to happen -- but we are becoming more and more dangerous to each other. The alternatives to helping each other are dreadful to contemplate.
