I think mediamatters.org ought to be required reading for everyone in America.

NPR has aired portions of conference calls made in LA prior to Katrina with the parish presidents, FEMA, and state officials. The FEMA rep was assuring everyone that relief supplies were pre-staged and would be rolling within 12 hours.

That is the only place I heard those tapes.
