Newshoggers Comments

Gravatar I was just at another blog site that says almost the same thing about the democrates, even tho these are a medical professionals...guess rule of thumb is your always right no matter what side?

Gravatar Hi Rita,

Perhaps the most interesting thing is that many professional psychologists feel the same way as I do when observing the Bush administration. Several of their opinions are in links imbedded in the post.

Regards, C

Gravatar Another way to tell a socialised psychopath is when you see someone who wants to solve every problem with a gun.
He doesn't believe in negotiation or compromise.
Get a gun, shoot 'em up, problem solved.
The Too Many John Wayne Movies syndrome.

Another thing is watching someone take great joy in hunting animals for the killing of them.
Native Americans always apologised to the animals they killed that they needed them for food and only took what they needed.
But from the day that Buffalo Bill stood there with someone loading guns for him and eventually boasted of shooting one million buffalo, killing of animals by some people is just that, killing for the enjoyment of it.

Gravatar What a laugh! A sardonic sad laugh, but a laught nonetheless. Well done.

Gravatar This is great!
Way too many links to read!
I will have to send this one to a lot of people.

Unfortunately, much of this does apply to both parties. Guess it is just the power that draws a certain type of person.

Gravatar Great read.

Here's SOMETHING ELSE you may find interesting.

Gravatar Hi Steve.

I had actually read the article you link before but it slipped my mind while I was writing this. Thanks!

For everyone else, the link Steve E posted above leads to an article entitled "Ignorance and abdication that amounts to madness."

"All political leaders sometimes parry with the truth, but with Bush the disconnections are systematic" it says.

Fun read.

Regards, C

Gravatar Great job! It seems to confirm the fact that many Repiglicans are so psychologically damamged that the notion of a "win/win" scenario is anathema to them. They only feel good about themselves if they can bring misery to others.

Gravatar Goal isn't enslavement of their victim(s)
Goal of indenturing of their victim (s) because slaves have no money.

Gravatar I wrote this about Bush's sociopathic tendencies alomst three years ago while doing a guest blog bit at Digby's. Glad to see it's still just as timely.

http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/ 2...e.html#92001931

Another great sociopathic checklist is found here:

Gravatar Unfortunately, much of this does apply to both parties. Guess it is just the power that draws a certain type of person.

From my first link:

". . . the PCL-R revealed that psychopaths are everywhere. Most are non-violent, but all leave a trail of havoc through their families and work environments, using and abusing colleagues and loved ones, endlessly manipulating others, constantly reinventing themselves. [Dr.] Hare puts the average North American incidence of psychopathy at 1 per cent of the population, but the damage they inflict on society is out of all proportion to their numbers, not least because they gravitate to high-profile professions that offer the promise of control over others, such as law, politics, business management ... and journalism."

Gravatar Thanks for the comments folks. Thumb has it right, as does Kirk - sociopaths tend to grab power wherever they find themselves. Unfortunatley, at least to me, it seems like the GOP has become their natural home. With so many sociopaths already running the show there, newcomers feel right at home right away.

PS Welcome, "Crooks and Liars" folks.

Gravatar Thanks Mark,

I'm going to add your first link in the place you suggested later today.

Gravatar MASTERFUL!! You seem to have the situation surrounded, C, and I look forward to many more such sterling, information-packed posts such as this one in the future. If this is your first, you've set the bar for yourself almost supernaturally high.

Heartiest congratulations.

Gravatar Hey, Kirkrrt, would you care to PROVE that much of this applies to Democrats...or do you just want to continue talking through your obviously rightwad hat?

The simple fact is that the Conservative Culture of Corruption has no use for individuals with scruples, principles or ethics. This is why none of you gutless wonders will stand up and actually denounce a criminalized Administration that cannot seem to help breaking the law and then lying to the American people about it.

Would you like to bet on how many GOoPers go down with Jack Abramoff? Any wagers on impeachment???

Gravatar Hi Angel, and thatnks for the kind words. Please be kinder to Kirk tho. He's very definitely a Lefty Dem as you would find if you read Newshog comments further. I think, when he refers to Dems who suffer the same malaise, he's referring to two guys named Joe - and who would disagree?

Regards, Cernig

Gravatar I'm sad to say your post reminded me of the people I worked with in law enforcement, and why I left.

Gravatar forgetting about politics for a minute -- my scary next-door neighbor fits almost all of this.
She takes in wildlife and keeps 31 monkeys but, as much as she claims she's devoting her life to the animals, it's really all about her. She draws in lots of supporters (and money) with a kind of vulgar charm. It's impossible to believe anything she says -- I wonder if she even knows when she's lying. She has 27 cameras around her property. She claims to have killed 2 people and has threatened us with violence multiple times. I could go on and on. It's been quite the education dealing with this person.

Gravatar Wow, that took a lot of work. Great job!

Gravatar Strage thing is, it says comments zero on my screen and yet, here they are! many!
Well done.

Gravatar Excellent post!! I too had forgotten about bullyonline.org with its valuable info on this disorder. Yes, bullying is widespread and in many homes. However, I think you point out how perfectly the repub party fits the description.

As U.S. citizens, we are all victims of bullying from the repub party. This website gives insight and help to those suffering from the abuse. If we look at how to deal with the bully, we know what we must do with this Administration!!

http://www.bullyonline.org/actio...tion/ action.htm

Gravatar Excellent, dead on it. Obviously not true for all conservatives or Repubs but it is the personality of the "dead ender" or "true believer" or as a Bostonian colleague says - "typical of the Bush ball washers"
Hay are there any recent marks on Bush's face again?
Maybe I was just dreaming...

Gravatar If repubulicans are sosiopaths than democrats should be outright considered crazy "Unable to feel remorse or guilt" what about our president billy bob clinton who lied to the american people and to the courts (anyone else would have been put up on charges) and closes half our military bases before we go to war. thanks to the rebublicans that true enemy has been removed.

Gravatar I figured it was about time someone would come in and blame Clinton....LOL!!!

Gravatar LOL! Yup...and it figures they wait a week to do so.

Regards, C

Gravatar One point that I think needs to be hit here -- this isn't "Republicans"; it's "neoconservatives." There are a great many honorable Republicans and true-conservatives out there and it does no good to paint them with the same brush.

Gravatar Good point Sturgeon.
Any chance of them taking back their party though?
-C

Gravatar Great post; I'm gonna backlink from my blog to it when I get a chance... very thorough-- thanks for all the hard work!

Gravatar Good grief. If that is just your first draft, please
quit the day job and become a professional writer
immediately.

This is an amazing list.

Gravatar Now I can begin to grasp the meaning of that recent poll indicating that conservatives are happier than liberals.

If your happiness depends on making large numbers of people unhappy, then conservatives must be the proverbial pigs in shit at the moment.

Gravatar It turns out a lot of work has been done in the field of criminally psychopathic governments. The above isn't my homepage but I added it for convenience. (If that's a problem, here's the site again: http://www.cassiopaea.org/cass/ p...lobaczewski.htm - it's part of the http://www.signs-of-the-times.org family, the other blogs there might also be of interest.)

The work deals with ponerology, the science of evil, and the development of pathocracies - criminal governments, which we definitely have.

We should somehow link the various discussions of Republicanism and psychopathy.

Gravatar Here's one for the ages:
Extreme 911/JFK/Black Ops Conspiracy Theory
http://dc.indymedia.org/newswire...26716/ index.php

I think it always helps to look at extremes. This one is guaranteed to delight and infuriate all progressives. It was written from a truly paranoid mindset -- but that might just mean the author got to the truth (or parts of it) first.

According to "J" psychopaths have been taking over the Republican party (and now the Democrats) since WWII. Among my favorites:

"By, For, and Of Psychopaths"
"Cheater Strategists"
"Empire of Psychopaths"
"Rumsferatu and the psychopath/vampire parallel"
"homo sapiens normalis vs. homo sapiens psychopathicus"
"Sheeple no more"
"hell country/Planet earth"
"house of cards"
"a different psychology"

(Unfortunately the email is truncated, so it's not complete.)

Gravatar Cernig, I am so happy that you made it clear in the first sentence just who you were describing because I was definitely imagining Billy Boy Clinton. Then there were overtones of Kerry, a heavy dose of Robert Byrd, a suggestion of Johnson, more than a tad of Woodrow Wilson and it absolutely screams FDR. Strange how different folks see thing differently, isn't it?

Gravatar Sorry Brenda, more like Ann Coulter, who is a genetic psychopath.

RepubliCONMEN were so stupid to label Clinton a psychopath, when so many of them actually are (Christopher Hitchens et al).

It has nothing to do with how people see things, psychopaths are biological realities. Have you had your DNA checked?

Gravatar I suppose Clinton would qualify here as well, huh? Try to put some objective news out there instead of hate mongering in much the same way that the republicans you accuse are. God forbid there be some opposition to your "enlightened" liberal ideals. How have affirmitive action (still rampant racism in the US), welfare (a joke), high taxes(which hinder economic growth:see the recent Bush tax cuts which created an extra 100 billion in tax receipts) and your assault on conservative values through the ACLU worked out? What liberals are unable to grasp is that the pendulum has swung back in favor of a more conservative outlook on how our country should be run both internally and in the international arena. It would serve liberals more to propose middle of the road compromise solutions instead of pushing the socialist agenda which it is in favor of today. We are not Europeans and do not want your social state.

Gravatar You could qualify, but for the charm and language criteria

Gravatar This article is so inane that it really gives me hope for keeping the House & Senate.

That a person could be so black & white & demagoguic in his "thinking" is really a miracle.

Good luck tying your shoes.

LH

Gravatar As I read through behavioral characteristics listed, I kept picturing Bill and Hillary Clinton.

I thought they were democrats?

Gravatar How about a pattern of accusing one's enemies of one's own sins and transgressions?

That's probably the most consistent characteristic I've noticed of the right wing authoritarian movement of the past 12 years.

And it's on a rampage here in these comments.

Gravatar I remember discussing sociopathy in an abnormal psychology class in college. The professor pointed out that politics is a natural profession for people with these tendencies because they get the adulation they crave and are in a position to abuse power without consequences. However, it is not limited to Republicans--the example he used as an illustration of the paragon of sociopathic personality disorder was John F. Kennedy (made me bristle at the time, but think about it--extremely charming and charismatic, but with no discernible moral compass).

I think the difference in the current political climate is that the Republican party seems to have institutionalized sociopathic behavior. It's really a strange and frightening phenomenon because the one thing that has always made sociopaths seem manageable is that they are loners who are too self-centered to "organize" in social groups. In fact, that lack of social ability is a hallmark of the disorder. As individual's their potential to harm, while significant, is still limited. As a group in a leadership position, however, they have managed to redefine centuries of agreed upon moral values (e.g. validating the desire for personal wealth through greed vs. the age-old notion that greed is socially destructive) and they have done this in a relatively short time.

Very interesting and frightening times we are living in.

Gravatar It's not that these characteristics apply equally to democrats and republicans, but that these sociopathic characteristics are typical of politicians more than anything else.

The average democrat or republican has very few of these characteristics and is truly not a sociopath, but those motivated by the love of power and driven to a career in politics are the most twisted of the lot.

Gravatar Wonderful example of satire, I almost fell for it at first. Amazing how many clueless individuals did.
