Newshoggers Comments

Gravatar The Israeli diplomat to the UN is correct...until terrorists learn to fight like men, rather than fighting like pansies hiding behind the skirts of women and the innocent children, crimes against humanity such as the tragedy in Qana overnight will not cease.

Lebanon should be angry, but their anger needs to be directed at the right people, and the right people are the swines who lead Hezbollah.

Gravatar Funny thing happened today. I was watching CNN Europe, I like to keep an eye on who is advertising there, and I got hour after hour of coverage of this very incident. (Nothing on elections in Congo though, or Nato taking control of the war in Afghanistan so the US can cut and run. Something about which the US is said to have second thoughts now the Taliban has grown massively in numbers and is still there after “mountain thrust”.)

Now CNN Europe is a very different channel from the CNN North American viewers might be used to. I know because every Sunday afternoon it switches to what I assume is the US channel for “late edition with Wolf Blitzer”. All of a sudden there are different flashy and noisy (swoosh!!!) graphics, different talking heads, and a clock reporting eastern and central time.... really useful for those around GMT.

So after watching again and again how someone steps over the body of a girl covered in concrete dust to hold her up by the shoulders so the camera can see her face. (A picture straight from Lebanese TV) I got tough questions in a raised voice to an Israeli representative over why the Airforce could bomb a house if it has “precision ammunitions”. During announcements the screen gets split and I get to see around 5 bloody bodies of kids covered in white concrete dust being carried by men running away from rubble. These images get repeated around three times every hour.

Then its Wolf Blitzers turn. There are some bodies as well.... Only these are adults of which only a feet sticks from underneath a blanket. And then one, two, tree and another after another after another shot of rubble.... One guy carrying the body of a kid. (all from the same Lebanese channel) Blitzer to a reporter in Lebanon: there were leaflets warning the locals, have you seen the leaflets? Hezbollah does use civilians as human shields right? Then there are the reports showing how CNN guys are brave under the sound of Israeli air raid sirens.

And then its back to CNN Europe again, and I get to see the guy step over the girl, turn her over, and show her... well maybe its A boy, the point is the only part that isn't covered in white dust is the pants which are covered in blood...

I guess its different people working on a different channel.

But a malevolent explanation is possible. This is the news organization that had US soldiers from the PSYOPS units as interns in its newsroom during the Balkan conflict. And it runs fluff pieces on Africa “in association with clear essence, the ethnic skincare line” with lots of African tourist boards calling for me to visit the countries I now only from SIPRI`s list of armed conflicts.... followed by global challenges, “in association with shell” showing how alternative energy helps in developing nations followed by fluff pieces on gulf states (great golfing, great business opportunities) “in association with Qatar airways” all of this topped with some nice orascom telecom ads showing how mean Israe

Gravatar There is always enough (much too much) spin put on issues by both sides that it is hard to discern the truth. I ave read the comments from both sides.

But (aside from the fact that Israel has very deep terrorist roots), two events are on record that demonstrate Israel's comtempt for world opinion. In 1967 the USS Liberty was off the coast of Egypt when it was subjected to a sustained attack by Israeli sea & air forces. Just a few days ago, four UN observers were killed despite repeated calls to Israeli officials protesting the closeness of the bombing.

One of the things, and perhaps the only thing, these two events have in common is that the "victims" were in a place to witness something that Israel did not want witnessed.

I do not know if Hizbollah fighters are hiding among a civilian population. I suspect not. But bombing the roads & bridges that prevent folks from leaving and then dropping leaflets telling people to leave is more than a little disingenuous. It is criminal.

Gravatar Yes I've noticed that too. It's like CNN international likes to throw red meat to the anti-american and anti-Israeli sensibilities of their global audience. In many cases it's obviously gratuitous pandering.
