Excellent post. One thing that the framers of the constitution could not foresee is the impact of modern mass communication. The modern political system is dominated by marketing, putting image ahead of substance. This makes it possible to keep the public placated until a situation becomes so bad that it cannot be spun away. That is the risk before us.
