Let me encourage readers to click on the Blake Hounshell link to read Cirincione's full statement, as well as Glenn Kessler's non-responsive response to it.
The Post on Friday ran an AP story along the same lines and headlined it "US: Syria on Nuclear Watch List", despite Cirincione's statement that it has been on the list for years.
This is smokescreen garbage having to do with the Israeli strike, which the hardliners are using opportunistically to hit at the North Korea talks.
The one odd note is North Korea's piping up to condemn the Israeli raid into Syria.
Am I missing something? I thought the Israeli planes were lit up by Syrian radar and dropped their munitions and drop tanks before getting the hell out. That was the original story. If it had been a successful hit on a Syrian nuclear program or even a Hezbollah weapons cache they would have said so immediately, to crow about it, not looked like idiots for bombing the desert. This smacks of historical revision and PR.
