I was there, and I would say that 1,000 is probably pretty accurate. I know, because I was walking ahead of the march in order to take some pics. So, I ended up walking down that one, long strecth of Pennsylvania Ave. that had both sides occupied by bikers, vets and other really angry counter-protestors.
They assumed I was anti-war (if only they knew, haha), so I had all sorts of crazy things screamed at me. Pretty scary--me virtually alone, walking towards the capitol, getting screamed at from both sides. Quite a gauntlet.
Another reason it's hard to get good crowd shots is the layout of the city. I tried getting up on some walls and such, but was promptly shouted down by cops.
I am having camera battery issues, which is poor planning on my part. Once I resolve that though, I'd be glad to share the pics I took.

I just have a hard time understanding how anyone can support the endless occupation of Iraq.
We invaded on a pack of lies.
We're staying on a pack of lies.
Bush said Saddam attacked us on 9/11, that he had nukes, and if we didn't take him out, he'd attack us again.
That's why a large portion of the population supported the invasion of Iraq.
As time went on and even Bush had to admit Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11, then the mission became to "fight'em over there so we don't have to fight'em here".
In the mean time Bush forgot all about Bin Laden, The Real Al Qaeda in Pakistan, the Taliban, and Afghanistan.
Instead the administration and the military sought to conflate a small group of insurgents in Iraq with the same Al Qaeda that attacked us on 9/11. The group calls themselves "Al Qaeda in Iraq" but they have littel or no contact with Bin Laden's Al Qaeda.
The media keeps this lie alive by reporting attacks in Iraq as carried out by "Al Qaeda".
95% of the insurgents in Iraq are Iraqis. 5% are foreign jihadis and of those 5%, 40% are from Saudi Arabia, Bush's long time friend and ally.
Now we're being told we need to stay in Iraq to prevent a blood bath in Iraq.
Seems Iraq. Up to a million Iraqis have already died and I didn't hear anyone giving a crap about Iraqis as the first bombs fell.
We're also being told we need to stay in Iraq so we don't dishonor the soldiers who have died and so we give the soldiers there a chance to complete "the mission" and have a chance to die honorably.
None of the reasons why we invaded Iraq in the first place exist today.
Meanwhile we've sunk over $600 Billion and counting into the Black Hole of Baghdad, and there are actually Americans that want us to spend more money and more blood in Iraq? For what?
You know where the central front in the war on terror is? It's not Iraq. It's in the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan where Bin Laden, Al Qaeda, and the Taliban roam free planning their next attacks.
But we're bogged down in Iraq because a bunch of ignornant people continue to support "the mission".
If our job is to spread democracy around the world by the barrel of a gun then we're just getting started.
If being a blood thirsty tyrant is enought to get a country invaded, then we have a lot more countries to invade.
And if we care so much about the bloodshed of the innocent, then how come we have done nothing about Rwanda and Darfur?
The rigth wing propaganda doesn't pass the smell test.

Kevin, I would love to see your photos. Thanks so much.
I understand the problems with getting a overhead shot, and I can see why it wouldn't be easy to scale walls but all those buildings have windows and rooftops. I don't get why someone doesn't make arrangements ahead of time to get into one of those buildings.
Poli, I so understand where you're coming from. I also don't get how anyone could review the available evidence and not conclude that this whole horrible mess has been predicated on lies. But I don't think you can blame the supporters of policy anymore than you blame the dissenters for failing to stop it.
Politicians on both sides of the fence are ignoring the people's will and allowing this to happen. I'm thinking we really need to focus our outrage inside the Beltway and not on each other.
