I'm not just playing devil's advocate here.
We don't need to spend priceless American blood training the so-called 'Iraqi army'. There's no shortage of trained armies of killers in Iraq. I say end this occupation. Leave. And, All power to the militia's! Let God Allah sort them out.
Good concluding paragraph, above!

The so-called mercenaries are paid out of tax-supported government contracts. I made $94K/year in Iraq ($82K of which was tax free) and sat on my ass most of the time. That money came directly from US taxpayers. Thanks fool.

I'm curious to know why people cite Glenn Greenwald so often as an authority on the obvious? He was at least a month behind the trend on this one (which is when I first noted it). And I'm one who rarely bothers to read the press briefings given by Odierno and Co. But it's scarcely possible to skim anything the brass is saying in Iraq without noticing that all enemies are now "al Qaeda". So why did this become an official fact only when GG noticed? The question in this case could be multiplied many times. It's as if GG were the official scorekeeper for leftopia.

Numbers of eyeballs, smintheus. I've been ahead of the crowd a few times myself, but unless one of the major-traffic blogs links, it goes unknown until another big-traffic blog posts the story.
Ce la vie.

Maybe you're missing my point, Cernig. I'm not at all sure I ever commented on the reductio ad al Qaeda; maybe in my post about the last quarterly report on Iraq (?).
Certainly I don't remember thinking that there was anything remarkable about the observation... all anybody had to do was read any of the documents or press briefings from Iraq, and it was transparent that "al Qaeda" was now the term for every enemy.
IOW, it was a widely observed fact.
I fully expect that if GG ever gets around to commenting that Dick Cheney is an overly secretive bastard, for example, he will be widely cited for that fact too. I really don't understand how GG became authoritative as far as obvious, well documented facts.
