Whoever gets the Dem nomination will be demonized by the right-wing media machine, so we better get ready for it. I'm not a Hillary fan, but the same attacks will apply to Obama, Edwards, Richardson, or even Pat Paulson. Remember how Gore and Kerry were portrayed? It's gonna be even worse this time.
True enough but nobody has more attackability, to make up a word, than Hillary. I'm not a big fan of any candidate at the moment but I really think Hillary is the most dangerous choice that the Dems could make.
And one should not take CDS lightly. I've witnessed almost daily down here.
I'm with you on this one. Pygalgia is right that the eventual nominee will be attacked with all the relentlessness our GOP friends are known for, but Hillary literally turns the stomachs of a huge swath of Americans. Not all of them are hard core Republicans, either.
I think that for independents, if the choice is to have, say, Mitt Romney in the White House and the Republican Scream Machine relatively quiet or Hillary in the White House and an endless cascade of scandals day in an day out for half a decade... well hell, I'm sold already and I'm a Democrat.
I really hope that at the end of the day, the primary votes just aren't there for Hillary.
The primaries have to roll through the south, no? If the idea of girl germs is so appalling that otherwise sensible Democrats would vote for the Evil Party candidate, Ms. Clinton won't win any of the southern primaries.
And if The South(tm) would rather hand the United States over to yet another Evil Party criminal than vote for a girl, well, that's pretty stupid of them, doncha think? It's still possible to win an election without the South (Gore did it in 2000, Kerry probably did it in 2004,) so if Ms. Clinton wins the primary there will be no excuse for her not to abandon the south altogether and concentrate on sweeping up the mountain states. I think that -- even with a healthy share of misogyny from the extra-chromosone contingent -- Ms. Clinton will take the traditionally Democratic states in a walk, and that leaves plenty of time to seduce the mountain states away from the Dark Side.
She will never take the south. Around these parts, the mere mention of her name causes spittle-flecked fits of apoplexy in otherwise sensible people, many of whom are thoroughly disgusted with the GOP. Trust me on this.
I'm seeing the same thing here in east TN. And just as bad, there is almost the same amount of venom towards Obama as there is towards Hillary.
Exactly Sha. It's not just hardcore GOpers. She won't be strong with the independents either. Heck, I've seen the same reaction up north.
David it's got nothing to do with gender or even race. It's the name Clinton. They simply hate the Clintons. No reason. It's an emotional response. These people I'm talking about would be fine with say Condi Rice.
And I see no reason that Hillary wouldn't win the southern primaries. All the candidates have their problems with the south but the Democratic machine, such as it exists in the south will probably work to win her the nomination but it won't help her in the race.
Archcrone, as I say the Dems have a hard slog in the south no matter who wins. They don't have a good crossover candidate. Edwards raises a lot of venom here in NC. They hate him for being rich and a lawyer. Obama not so much.
But none of them have the automatic baggage attached to Hillary. The bottom line is, even among milder people who don't vehemently hate her and might vote for a Dem, they simply want a change. Bush has burned them out on political dynasties.
I'm in Nevada and we are getting Hillary shoved down our throats by Senator Reid's son, Rory, and other liberal elected officials statewide. It makes me sick. We are giving ourselves and this entire country a sick enema.
