In an open letter, Oxfam predicts a "humanitarian disaster" in the country, pointing out that millions of dollars of development aid is being wasted.

So, you are arguing that the solution is still more millions of dollars should be wasted in Afghanistan?

Gravatar Ken, I'm arguing that, unlike the Iraqi populace, the Afghans actually seem to want a Western presence there if it can do a decent job - and that a lack of resources squandered in Iraq means the millions spent in Afghanistan were pissed against a wall. It's one case where throwing lots of good money after bad actually makes sense.

What's your proposal? Trust Dubya? seems so. You wrote on your own blog:
The Bush administration has not been the disaster of comic-book proportions that the left pretends it is (economic growth, low unemployment, tax cuts, success in Iraq, etcetera and so on. Oh, the horrors) You've been snorting the KoolAid powder, haven't you?

Regards, C

Gravatar The appointment of a High Representative won't solve anything. It will only make the Karzai government redundant and Karzai himself unelectable. If there is to be progress in Afghanistan, we have to solve the drug problem there -- and that means the West, which gets some 98 per cent of the profit from heroin trafficking, will have to take a hit.
