A huge segment of the public wants commercial Progressive Talk Radio. The Big Media companies like Clear Channel are gatekeepers to the stations. Big Media LOVES the Conservatives because the Cons give them tax breaks to line their pockets with.
The Fairness Doctrine is a non-starter. I don't want Hannity's lies on my Progressive Talk station. The best thing to do would be to cap ownership to one AM station, one FM station, one TV station, one newspaper per company per market.
Let owners with diverse points of view buy stations and put on the format they think will pull in the most ad revenue and listeners.
Yeah, I agree 100%. I don't want to tune in to a progressive show only to catch the last half hour of Rush, or have my liberal commentary wrap up as a lead-in to Michael Savage. It just doesn't make sense.

Wrong. If a grocer only decided to sell bananas and not oranges, then all the complaints in the world would not FORCE the grocer to sell oranges.

True. That's why Big Media owners want to broadcast Conservative talkers: Conservative lawmakers, given the chance, give huge tax breaks to rich Big Media owners. Then the Big Media owners "kick back" some of these tax breaks in the form of campaign contributions ... to Conservative politicians.
It doesn't matter if more money can be made with Progressive Talk advertisers, because Big Media would rather "eat" that loss, in order to line their pockets with tax breaks.
If it truly is a "marketplace" issue, then you should challenge Big Media companies like Clear Channel to sell their underperforming stations, and open up the "market". As it is, Clear Channel and their ilk aren't giving non-Conservative talk formats a chance to compete in the "marketplace".

How about state ownership of all media? That would get your message out. The market place decides whats on the radio not whinning democrats. Have a message worth listening to and it will be sold on the radio and supported by adverstisers. You already have taxpayer supported NPR it can't get much better than that..

The President nominates FCC chairmen, who have control over media consolidation, etc. No FCC chairs have been nominated in the past 7 months. That's what you're missing, in part.

Sorry, I've already debunked this myth. The Big Media owners decide what's on the radio, not Joe Public.

NPR is not Progressive Talk radio. NPR has to serve its Congressional overlords. NPR tries to be "balanced" and "eclectic".
I'm talking about Progressive Talk radio, which SLAMS the NeoCon talking points as fast as Rush and Hannity and Ingraham and Levine and Beck pump them out.
