Gravatar I've responded to you suggestion here.

I think the most convincing explanation, as I noted in my post this morning, is that increasing tensions work to Iran's benefit in terms of domestic politics, regional politics, and the oil market.

Gravatar Hi Dave,

Hmmm...but they don't help with their nuclear problems, having huge armed contingents camped on their doorsteps or being able to actually trade.

I agree that, under the Laws of the Sea, if this were acknowledged a priori as a disputed area then Iraq would have been in the wrong.

However, the Iranians obviously felt it was their waters, in which case the detention would be legal under Iranian law in Iranian waters.

Proving which is or isn't the case is really the crux of the whole thing. The UK have, in the opinion of this Brit, failed to prove their case convincingly as much as the Iranians have failed to prove theirs.

It would take a climb-down from both sides to accomplish my suggestion. That's why it's probably a non-starter.

Regards, C

Gravatar What does this fool mean by? “It's always easier to escalate than to calm things down.”

I understand this to mean: ”Give up. Lay down, let the enemy have its way with you”

A typical one world loving commie blog.

The Brit suckers taken prisoner are experiencing first hand what the passengers of the four planes on 911 experienced. And this fool wants us to calm down, and quietly take our punishment.
