Gravatar The Duke - Belmont game is why March Madness is so much fun. Even though I have Duke going far into the tournament, I was pulling for the Bruins! What a great game!!

Gravatar The Sports Guy is in decline. His stuff is so lame these days. It reminds me of when Leno, before he had made it and was the host of the Tonight Show, would go on Letterman and be absolutely hysterical. Then, after he got the Tonight Show job, he became much less funny. The Sports Guy peaked about 3 years ago.

Gravatar Just ran some numbers from my NCAA data base. Last nights win by Duke was only the second time that a #2 beat a #15 by only one point, the last time - 1995 Arkansas beat Texas Southern 79-78.

As for the sports guy / gal. Of course he's started being lamer, thats what happens when all of your teams are doing well, you become trite so that you don't jinx them.

Gravatar Was Westy traded by Red because of a money issue? With the possible exception of Larry Legend, PW had the most dexterous left hand of any Celtic I can remember.

Yes, the SI Vault is going to be fun. This is the lede from Dan Jenkins' '64 cover story on Dick Butkus. "If every college football team had a linebacker like Illinois Dick Butkus, all fullbacks would soon be three feet tall and sing soprano."

Happy 60th birthday Robert Gordan Orr.

Gravatar Can't wait for the baseball preview. Stop bashing Duke! You know you want to be like them, talented, white, and just a bit under-achieving.

I know we talked about SG recently, but I actually like the Gal's columns. I actually think she writes them. She might be funnier than him at this point.

By the way, I'm boycotting my employer too, until they pay the porters an appearance fee. They are the heart and soul of US.

Gravatar Outside of the classic "Dougie's going deep tonight," and the medias occasional veiled references to Doug Mirabelli being a clubhouse jerk, does anyone really know specifics as to what he does that makes him so obnoxious? I've always been curious what he does that's so bad. I'm not necessarily doubting it, but it seems to be a fairly common perception of the the man, without a lot of proof to back it up. It seems some of the same charges were applied to Orlando Cabrera. Anyone have some details?

Gravatar When are you going to admit the only reason you're moving TATB to boston.com is to land an interview with Jenna Fischer? :-P

Gravatar do you think the Sports Guy puts on a dress when he writes those Gal pieces?

Gravatar I actually thought the MRs. Sportsgal picks collum was one of the funniest things I've read on his site in a while, and not in a, "look how dumb this lady sounds," kinda way either.

Gravatar I'm also confused about Doug Mirabelli. Multiple sources have claimed him to be a jerk. Yet Wakefield, who seems to be a good all round guy and loved by everyone, seems to really, really like the guy; beyond just for being able to catch the knuckle ball. Strange.

Gravatar I hate to jump on the bandwagon, but I now come here before going to the LASG--I have merely skimmed his last few columns. That said, I think a change of writing scenery or a hiatus might do him well. I think the "my friend's shrink went to Pitt -- go Panthers" type thing is a very tired cliche.

I am with the folks wondering what makes the Chick-Parm King such a jerk.

Gravatar From what I have heard from countless people, Mirabelli is a good (if obnoxious) teammate, but treats everyone not in uniform like *%&$.

And I wear a dress when I write this posts, so really, who am I to judge?

Gravatar I'm okay with Kevin Cash being the backup. Sure the frustrations of his lack of bat will be plenty, but as long as he can catch Wake, I don't mind the one year stopgap. Dusty Brown and George Kottaras, or anyone else better be ready in 09. I don't think I could take 2 years of Cash.

Also, what was your take on the whole near boycott on Wednesday? I thought it was a really cool thing of them to do, standing up for their coaches like that. While it was about the money, it wasn't about it in the way most people really think. They were standing up for the coaches, and they weren't going to back down. It also showed a heck of a team unity if you believe in that sort of thing.

Gravatar I was impressed. I grew up watching the 25 players, 25 cabs version of the Sox, so I'm not taking this generation of players for granted.

Gravatar jeremy jacobs must lead the nhl's
idiot owner power rankings.

Gravatar Sports Guy has gotten really tedious. His love letter to New Orleans a month ago after trashing the place during Feb. 2002, was quite a contradiction. His not so joking bid to be the Bucks GM is stupid and unentertaining. You would've thought after the Celts swept the Texas Triangle there would've been a Celtics column, but alas there was none. Also, why do I give a #$%^ what his friend Jack O thinks in a podcast? He's always pimping Adam Corolla, who to me is one of the most unfunny people around next to David Letterman.

Too bad, because his old website was must reading. He's a different writer now, and not for the better.

Chad, love your columns, keep up the great work. I'm always fired up when I see you've got an updated column. I find I agree with almost all you write.

Gravatar Cash is a placeholder, nothing more. He can catch the knuckler, he's cheap, and -- given Mirabelli's age and recent stats, he might even be the better hitter of the two. I suspect that Theo's planning to trade for a catcher -- a proven backup or a prospect more advanced than Kottaras or Brown. Until then, Cash will accumulate more of that invaluable retirement commodity: major-league service time.

Now, if Cap'n Tek gets hurt before Theo makes a move, then we got issues.

Gravatar Agreed on Jacobs.

Something I thought of re: LASG that probably has something to do with it (other than the inherent difficulty of remaining so original while pumping out high volume): he justified discontinuing his movie list by mentioning that his mailbags (which require much less original thought) get better ratings. I don't think the BSG would think that way, but the LASG does. His last movie thing was like self-parody--his original Karate Kid column was actual LOL material.

It's sort of like in Wayne's World when they "upgrade" the show (I guess if I had some writing talent I'd incorporate references to my buddy Wack O and launch a campaign to become the new GM of Stan Mikita Doughnuts of Aurora).

Gravatar Great call on Hermida. He was on fire during the second half of the season but seems to have gone back under the radar.

As for SG's wife - if she didn't exist, then he would have to make her up. But if it was uncovered that she never wrote any of her columns, would Simmons get the "Frey/Seltzer" treatment?

Gravatar Agh, drop basketball.

Basketball sucks, and I'd rather read about Red Sox A-level prospects than the fuckin NBA. And the NHL no longer exists.

Gravatar фигня!

Gravatar Ni rugat'sa!

Gravatar You need to fix the Mike Reiss -Harvey link.
