Anyone watching this? Looks like the same Dice-K to me - nibble, nibble, nibble.

Unless Phil Hughes wins about 30 games (and from a fantasy standpoint, I hope so), I can't see the Yankees topping 94 wins. Or are you drinking the Dev- pardon me, the Rays kool-aid too?

I bet Tampa is around .500. It's funny how pissed some of those guys are that Evan Longoria got sent down. He must have made a great impression.
Toronto will be mediocre, no matter what Mr. Cafardo says. And I can't get a feel for the Yankees - they should score a lot of runs, but then again that lineup could get old overnight.

Cafardo is JP Ricciardi's #1 toadie. If Nick doesn't have any material to write about, he just calls up JP for an interview to fill his Sunday notes column. I think Toronto is an improved team and will finish 2nd. No way they finish ahead of the champs.
Dice K is too erratic. Same crap as last season. He's still a #4 starter at best. Nibble, nibble, missed location, missed location. He was doing the same thing in an exhibition game earlier this season, too. He's excrutiating to watch.

Actually, "play ball!" is "play ball!" in Japanese as well, only it's pronounced "purei-booru!".
Although it's not the best thing for the team, great to be able to see the Sox in Tokyo! Anybody else who was at the game?

Toronto is already down their 3B and closer. Not a good way to start the season.

The Nuke LaLoosh thing has not gone unnoticed. In our household, we just call Papelbon, "Meat". I keep waiting for him to say, "We gotta play it one day at a time" in a post-game interview.

Count me in on the Jay's bandwagon. Best starters in the AL and one of its best bullpens too. Rolen should hurt far more than BJ because Accardo ain't chopped liver. But no question they finish above the '82 Sox, err, I mean '08 Yanks.

Chad -
1 - who's the babe in the picture?
2 - I'm guessing it's not a good idea to walk David Ortiz to face that Manny guy
3 - I'm up every morning at 4 AM to go to work. Can we get more of these games? I am actually looking forward to the alarm going off tomorrow morning.

Is it just me, or is Papelbon auditioning for the role of Curt Schilling? Or perhaps even Roger Clemens, the great young pitcher whose quirks and ego grow by the year? Hope not.

I love...LOVE LOVE LOVE...Ellsbury, to a point that almost makes me want to buy a pink hat, but I think it's unfair to expect a "significant offensive upgrade" over Coco Crisp this year. I want Jacoby out there playing Gold Glove™ caliber center field, getting on base any way he can, and scoring from second on sac flies. I too have seen signs that he might develop more power than Brett Butler eventually, but his major league numbers last year show fly ball/ground ball/line drive percentages (.282/.524/.194) that suggest he's not quite there yet. I hope he stays in the eight slot for a while, until he is good and ready for the leadoff spot. Let's not put undue pressure on the kid, since there are plenty more horses in the stable.
