Getting a bit angsty, here. Nothing a sunrise round of Jagerbombs with Papelbon wouldn't make a dent in. Y'know. After a victory.

Ah, Buck. Always there to pee in Boston fans' collective Wheeties.

The Sox owners have got to realize how much Sox fans would hate having A-Rod on the team, right? You don't add an albatross to a championship team & expect it to improve.

Nobody likes A-Rod, but he would improve the team big time. Manny is declining and we've seen the offense without him.

Interestingly, Donovan, the Sox starter, closer, center fielder and second baseman tonight were home-grown, as was Youkilis and Delcarmen. They spend money and they are a player-development machine. The former only applies to your Cubs.
Now I'm going to drink some beer and watch the party . . .

Well, congratulations are due the Red Sox. They won with their backs against the wall in the LCS, and closed out the Rockies in impressive fashion.
I sure miss having my Yankees there, but oh well, them's the breaks.
Surely the best team won the World Series.
See you next year.

Just a few things...
Yes, the 2004 team is intellectually the team I will hold in my heart as "the redeemers", I will forever remember the 2007 team as the one who brought the most pure joy to my life. The difference? A 5-year-old boy sitting in his Red Sox pajamas watching highlights on NESN this morning. (One morning this summer he woke up early and turned on SportsCenter. When I came downstairs he causually said "mom, could you get me a Pop Tart and some coffee?") Over the summer of 2007, he became a student of the game. He wore a Red Sox shirt just about every day, certain shirts reserved for off days, swearing off others when said player was in a slump. He even asked if he could get a JD Drew shirt because perhaps having more folks wear his number would give him more confidence. Six weeks ago he decided he wanted to be Papelbon for Halloween, a shrewd play to get a game jersey instead of a t-shirt I believe. I even spent game 3 sewing a red stripe down the side of his new white baseball pants since he insisted on looking authentic...and he's been practicing his jig. The love and admiration that my little boy has for this team of gentlemen brings so much love to my heart.
Oh, and the Timlin/Wakefield love fest sent me right into tears last night. I love all of those guys and will miss spending my nights watching them on television. It saddens me to think that next year some of these boys won't be here, but then again, in 2004 I never could have imagined loving a team without all fo those guys.
And lastly, thank you Chad for all of your insight, wit, and time that you have shared with us. I'm glad to have found this site and will continue to visit as long as you leave the lights on.

not working. Just sitting in my office with a goofy smile on my face. I love this feeling. Chad thanks for taking the time to write this blog. It truly makes following the SOx even more enjoyable to be able to read someone that can capture the same thoguht and feelings I have and put them down. Looking forward to the next couple months of 1st and 10 collumns. Go Sox!

Thankfully we had O'Brien and Sutcliffe announcing the games here. I can just about, almost tolerate OB and Sutcliffe, but Buck and McCarver is nearly intolerable. And who'da thunk it Wally? McCarver a Red Sox? Tell me it's a fake!
Nonetheless, I enjoyed this time in a much more adult manner, ie, I didn't scream at the TV or punch sofa pillows. No, I was much more philosophical this time and although I did get worked up a couple of times, I (possibly) could have handled the Sox losing. Maybe. Nah. I'd have still been pissed for weeks.
Anyway, I visit your site all the time and when there's nothing new for a week it is a bit disappointing. I like your take on many things and enjoy your blog a great deal. In fact, could you put a "S*%t or get off the pot" button on your main page so that we happy readers could push it when you haven't posted in say over 3 days?
Thanks Chad.

It was kind of nice to see Papelbon look thoughtful in the post-game interview (what, no drunken dancing?). He may have seen he was jumping a little too close to the shark. Also, he was completely gassed (although he hid it well for 5 outs).
Conspiracy theory #1: Scott "the devil" Boras, seeing the Red Sox on the verge of a sweep, urgently wanted to get A-Rod's name out there before Theo signed Lowell in the clubhouse to a (waterproof) contract.

He really is, I was at Fenway last year for the Saturday inter-league game against the Phillies (Big Papi walk-off HR) and was in a wheelchair after breaking my hip, and had to use the elevator after the game to get downstairs. The door opens up and who is standing in front of me waiting to go back upstairs with his media credential around his neck in his nice blue three-piece? Why it was wee Ken Rosenthal! I told him how much I liked his work on FOX, he shook my hand and thanked me, and he didn't have to bend down to shake my hand in the wheelchair. My 5 foot 9 wife was NOTICEABLY taller than him, and asked me "who was that little tool?" as we walked away...lol.
