I'm not sure who I trust less, Rocket or McNamee. I'm suspicious of anyone who saves used syringes, "just in case." String 'em both up.
Well, as someone commented yesterday: it may seem inexplicable that McNamee saved the 'roid syringes for so long... but it's way MORE inexplicable that he would have saved B-12 and Lidocaine syringes.
McNamee was exposed as a sad, pathetic man who gave up whatever life he had, in return for a chance to bask in the reflected glow of someone else's fame. Call him a starf***er, a groupie, who sold his human dignity instead of his orifices. And for just that reason, I found him believable. If he was making stuff up, his story would have been a lot more coherent, and would have cast himself in a better light. Instead, he was exposed under the glare of the TV lights and the hectoring of committee Republicans (who, I'm sure, got their share of autographed baseballs during Roger's shameless lobbying extravaganza).
In an ESPN.com posting, Howard Bryant calls Roger for what he is: a bully who blames everybody else in the world but himself. His trainer, his nanny, his wife, his mom, his Toronto doctors, all thrown under the bus. Pure, blameless Roger, crucified for the sins of those around him. Yeccch.
brief add... I'm not giving Pettitte a pass either. Apparently he checked through his old Daytimers and discovered that he took HGH a bit more often than he remembered. He may be a principled, Christian man, but he lied to George Mitchell about the extent of his PED usage, and I have no particular confidence that he's telling the full truth now.
I expect Pettitte witll have a rough time this season. It's likely that most of the players in every clubhouse in MLB including the Yankees, are drug cheats. And he's the guy who dimed out his teammate.
He'd better be prepared to hit the deck the first time he bats in interleague play.

Pettitte will be okay, I think. There aren't a lot of people who like Clemens, and the fact that Pettitte was honest about his own usage puts him above someone who'd be considered a rat.
I still can't believe Clemens is pinning this on his wife. What a slime. She must secretly despite him, even as she spends all his money on bedazzlers and breast enhancements.

No, not the first reply to this post. The first to know Clemens was a jackass. I knew it when he had the "B" on his cap. (I assume others here loved "their Rocket").
Anybody or anything that buries The Carpetbagger is OK in my book, even if he's still in the employ of the New York Yankees.

As a former steroid abuser, I'm insulted that Roger thinks we are all so stupid. It seems he has committed to a direction and he is sticking to it no matter what. I would have forgiven him if he just fessed up like Giambi. I'm not looking for asterisks or expunging of statistics. Just don't think we fans are stupid.
Oh, and yes I've been looking into HGH since this all came out. Why not? I want to be better physically.

Another hole in the Clemens Version: on espn.com, Mark Fainaru-Wada (co-author of the Barry Bonds book) reports that, in the days before the release of the Mitchell Report, Brian McNamee called Roger's people repeatedly, to warn them that Roger would be named in the Report. This says three things to me:
--Roger's statement that he had no idea he would be named is yet another load of crap. He knew, and he chose not to try to contact Mitchell.
-- Even after he spoke to Mitchell, McNamee still had hopes of salvaging his relationship with Clemens. This explains some of the inconsistencies in his testimony, and his failure to submit the syringes to Mitchell: He was hoping, somehow, to limit the damage and stay in Roger's good graces. This may seem like a forlorn hope, but as I said yesterday, McNamee has been revealed as a pathetic little groupie.
-- To me, it makes McNamee's basic testimony that much more believable. If he was still trying to suck up to Roger, the last thing he would want to do is falsely implicate him.
How does Clemens keep track of the lies at this point?
His legendary stupidity and arrogance may be what ultimately brings him down, ala Richard Nixon - another Republican disgrace. Roger had to have his day in "court." Might be the worst of many bad decisions he's made. I still can't believe he had the gall to interrupt Waxman's closing statement. That says it all about his EGO.

Chad, thanks for the many great reads. I, too, used to hate Stewart for the way he overmatched Clemens and the Sox. But something jumped out at me when I clicked on your link to Stewart's stats. Could Stewart have been a BALCO/ McGuire/Canseco roid guy too? Check out his stats pre-Oakland and then in Oakland. WOW! Coincidence? Hmmm.
Could be something to that, though when he was young with the Dodgers he had a blazing fastball and not much else.
