Yuck. Chad, this isn't a game blog. This is you posting in one room and us in another. Isn't there an app available to Blogspot that merges the two?
Thanks for your efforts just the same.

I was at Fenway for one of A-Rod's clutch homers last year. 2 strikes on him with 2 outs in the 9th and Papelbon tried throwing another fastball. Wound up in the bullpen as I recall.
Hughes certainly looks like a world-beater tonight doesn't he? Yeesh.

This umpire has a pretty wide strike zone tonight. He gave that high and inside call to Hughes on the past few Pedroia at-bats it seems.
Though you gotta hand it to Coco for his bunting and baserunning that inning. Too bad they didn't score Coco.

What's with Dice-K's velocity? It seems down from the last couple of starts, while Hughes seems to be throwing harder than he was, at least according to this gun.
The Globe is reporting that Paps is not available and possibly Okajima too. Who the hell is going to come in when Matzuzaka is out after 5? We better score a lot more runs because this doesn't look good to me.

First of all, I'll embarrass myself and ask what those letters stand for.
Then after you graciously explain, I'll tell you that you were wrong about Coco, I don't think he misjudged Matsui's drive at all, it was hit on a line over his head. The only way he makes the catch is with a tiny bit more speed but he didn't look like he got a bad or slow jump, it was just hit hard enough to out run him to the wall.

Pearls from Joe Morgan: "Kevin Youkilis uses his hands more to hit the ball... there, see that... he's using his hands... it's all in his hands... watch this... see that... the hands." I'm about to slice my wrists.

Apparently if you slice your wrists you'll become more of a line drive hitter than a home-run hitter, because without your wrists you won't be able to put the underspin on the ball that the good home-run hitters do and you'll hit line drives but not home-runs because you'll have to use your legs instead of your hands and OH DEAR JESUS WHY WON'T YOU MAKE HIM STOP!?!?!?

As an aside, how talented is Youk? That double play he made in the first inning on the short hop was amazing. I don't know if we've ever seen an infield glove man like this guy. Pure instincts.

Chad, you must have missed some of Morgan tonight if you thought he wasn't so bad. Once he mentioned the Yankee's lack of basestealers, he said Cano was one of the guys (along with Damon) who could steal bases. Yes, that would be Robbie "10 career steals, 10 times thrown out, and half as many steals last year as my backup Miguel Cairo" Cano. Nor did mention the 20+ steals by A-Rod and Abreu. I'm too young to know, but did Morgan get hit in the head, A LOT, during his playing days?

For the record, it actually is NOT a "ground-rule double" and is an "automatic double". Ground rule double implies it is a function of the individual park (to wit: rules of the grounds). If I weren't so lazy I would find the mlb groundrules page.
This is one of those little things that annoys me much more than it reasonably should, like people misusing less & fewer, or screwing up was and were.

Hughes was actually on pace for a 312 pitch, complete game, 24-0 loss. He wouldn't have had to pitch the 9th inning.

He would have pitched the ninth just for the sport of it. So there.
Mark, I believe you, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone actually say "automatic double" before. I took as Miller being Mr. Smart Guy.

Last year, in the most action he has seen since '04, he was considerably better against righties than lefties. Miller should have know that rather than blathering on about how historically good he is against lefties. That's just not true, despite some previous success.
I meant to mention this during the blog, but did anyone notice Morgan's reaction when Miller teased him about hitting into a "380-foot double play" in the '75 series (the great catch Dewey made in Game 6, obviously)? Morgan clearly was not amused. What a humorless prick.

That was a great moment. I don't know if Miller was trying to get some jokey chemistry going, the kind that a lot of play-by-play guys have with former players turned analysts. If so, then he should know better by now with Joe. Or he was just needling Joe for the hell of it, in which case I like him a lot more than I did before.

That's a good point - he had to be busting on him, because after all these years, he's gotta know Morgan is incapable of humor, especially at his own expense.

I thought Joe Morgan was going to backhand Miller there and we would've had our first ever "Announcer's Booth Brawl" in just about ever. Though my money is still on Joe Buck cracking first and taking off that hairpiece on McCarver's head and yelling ala Elaine Benes "I DON'T LIKE THIS AND THIS IS WHAT I'M GOING TO DO WITH IT" and then throwing it out of a booth. Seriously, that would be the greatest thing ever.
Also, why can't Red Sox pitchers ever go past the 5th inning during a Red Sox/Yankees Sunday night game? I swear everytime there's a game nobody goes beyond five.
Also, when's the big move to Boston.com coming? Isn't it in a few days or something? I'm just making sure so I can update my bookmarks

I had reservations about them signing Casey but he has been solid so far. The play he made beind the bag on Saturday on that little inside-out roller where he threw to Beckett covering (nice play on his part, too) was top-notch. If he can play the fill in roll and get the ocassional pinch hit against decent right-handed relievers he'll have been a pretty great pick-up.
