I don't know if he was known outside Chicago, but Ronnie Fields, KG's teammate at Farragut, had as much if not more hype around him in high school. Guy could jump out of the gym, etc. Ended up hurting himself by wrecking a car rented for him by a booster. Anyway, that Garnett cover brought back that memory.
Also, "I've seen a mock of what the blog might look like." Don't you get enough mocking on this blog as it is?

I do not care if Canseco is an ass. The guy exposed, and in a way - corrected, what was wrong with baseball, and maybe professional sports as a whole. He could be a complete dildo in it only for his own self interest, but he's ok in my book.
Agreed that Pacman is a waste of time. It's one thing to be an anti-social nightmare in the privacy of ones own home, quite another to insist on taking it to the street.
Tek is a defensive/game calling catcher extraordinaire who bats .260 with 20 HR's. What the hell are some people bitching about? I do not hear Cardinal or San Fran fans doing the same.

Oh, yeah, I remember hearing about Fields. I think he played in the CBA for a long time, and he's still kicking around somewhere.
I wish I had a good rebuttal for your mock joke, but I don't. I'll be crying myself to sleep tonight again, I guess.

Curry has been fun to watch, but after Thursday night, I think I'm looking forward to watching Josh Duncan and Xavier more than anyone else right now. He's a house.

Think Pacman will fit in in Dallas? The City of Strip Joints? The franchise of the infamous "White House"? What, is Jerry Jones trying to recapture the ho's-and-blow glory days of the 90s? Does he conflate illicit activities and colossal egos with winning football?
I guess that's one philosophy of team-building.
Re: Varitek... he'll be okay, but he is definitely in the decline phase. He's a good barometer for the Red Sox offense: if he's batting eighth, we're doing fine. If he's in the six slot, we're not.

Do you THINK Canseco ever read a book before or since he became such a distinguished author? I have my doubts.Who would have thought that Davidson would be the other N.Carolina school still in the tournament,Stephen Curry with his Andrew Toney-like (vs the Celts)performances is why March

Stephan Curry to Dell Curry? So how old do you think I feel remembering the nights I stayed awake in bed listening to the Davidson College games, featuring their All-American Fred Hetzel as somehow the air waves bounced the signal all the way from North Carolina to a quiet duplex in Concord?

A False Spring is a great book. Haven't read it in a few years, but now I'm going to dig it out again.

What I'll never forget about Chris Webber was his simple inability to count backward from "two."
How such a man, whatever his basketball talent, got into any college, anywhere, I'll never understand.

Bash-
I never liked the Fab Five, and I was as excited as the next Michigan rival when the "time out" was called. I'm also a big Tar Heels fan. However, imagine being a 20 year old kid in the final seconds of a national title game and keeping your cool on that play. He's not the only person who's ever choked in a high pressure situation, and he had the sense of humor to name a charitable foundation the "Time Out Foundation". He was no saint, and will always be a member of the despised Fab Five, but I have some warmth in my heart for him.

Chad -- If Varitek reaches, or passes, one of those 3 stats in James' prediction (.253-17-70) I'll give $20 to you or your favorite charity. There is NO WAY he hits 17 HR's or hits .253 this year. The 70 RBI is the only attainable number, but that's only because of the ridiculous amount of guys on base for his AB's this year. Tek, offensively, is TOAST.

He hit .238 two years ago and bounced back well. A .253 average seems right on the money.

I would take that bet. Never underestimate the power of a contract year.
